Amazon Device randomly showing up on Network.

Original question:

I've got a random Amazon KFAUWI device showing up on my network as a device beside my driver for my router. Can anyone help? I am sure it is not a device in my house, as everything is set to something we've done or one of our names. Can anyone tell me if i'm stupid or if this is a general happening?

    oh my God thank you so much I will try that I didn’t even know I had this comment to read LOL see I get so scared and I start to panic when I think you know that somebody might get all of the personal information I’ve had some past history with getting a malware and somebody in my router address so I’m really paranoid thank you so much for taking the time to explain that to me I appreciate your kindness. I have a picture if I could show you I’m not working and I’m not going to school like somebody suggested that’s what it was but could you look at this picture and maybe tell me how how to proceed with it? I don’t want to touch it but it’s got access to my Google Drive

    Hi Chelle,  

    No problem see instructions with screenshots below.  I am assuming you are running Windows 10 as a normal user (not Administrator).   

    1 Press the Win

    • R keys to open the Run dialog.

    2 Type what (ex: "services.msc") you want to run into the Run dialog.

    3 Either press the CTRL

    • Shift
    • Enter keys OR press CTRL
    • Shift and click/tap on OK.

    You will be prompted for the Administrator password, once you enter it the Services dialog will open.

    4 Scroll down until you see Windows Connect Now - Config Register

    5 Double click on service name

    6 Change Startup type to Disabled and click Apply

    7 Exit Services and restart your computer.   You should no longer see the phantom devices in Network.

    If you look you will see these devices are not on your network they have no IP address or other details.  They are simply devices with mac addresses out in the ether looking for available WPS networks they can connect to.  If you do not use WPS they will not connect. 

    make sure WPS is turned off in your  router.  Also turn off Windows Connect Now - Config Registrar service on your PC.

    Anyone have these pop in and out of your private network?

        Thank you so very much for answering my question! What you are saying makes total sense now. I am unsure how to configure the registrar. Maybe you could explain a little more about that? I can't find where to turn off the windows connect you mentioned. I will make sure WPS is off in my router.

    I appreciate your time and help in this. I have never reached out for help in my past and wish I would of after a hugs ordeal happened to me and I just kept it to myself and it got worse. Lesson learned. So even though it's awkward to ask I am going to to do it because there are people experiencing these same issues and know how to help.
