Amazon Device randomly showing up on Network.

Original question:

I've got a random Amazon KFAUWI device showing up on my network as a device beside my driver for my router. Can anyone help? I am sure it is not a device in my house, as everything is set to something we've done or one of our names. Can anyone tell me if i'm stupid or if this is a general happening?

    Happens to me too.  Has the name of austin.  I'm on a business network where password is changed monthly and is 20 characters or random stuff generated by keepass2...  no way its a weak wireless or network password.  I've seen the exact same thing on 4 different networks now at different locations with no device crossovers...  something about this sounds fishy.  Only started happening to clients after fall creators update that i've noticed anyway.

    I am very disappointed with the Microsoft answers forum.  You would think the maker of the software i.e. windows operating systems should know the answer right the way and clear up for all.  I have never been able to find any right answer, or for that matter, any good answer to any question that people ask.   Microsoft technical people always give a form-like reply to any question asked.

    I always found answers in other 3rd party forums.  I forgot the website but my problem similar or identical to the issue here was solved.  This has to do with devices scanning the wifi spectrum and found yours.  It has no implication of security as your WPA2 password will protect you from the device entering your network, hence no IP is shown even though the MAC is.  If you want to get rid of looking at other peoples' devices when clicking NETWORK, disable Microsoft windows connect now service.  Easiest way to get to Services is to go to control panel - Administration Tools - Services.  Look for windows connect now and right click for properties (or just double click to get properties directly.)  In the drop down of startup type, choose disable.  If that service is running, you may want to stop it manually or just boot the computer. 

    This works for me and I do not see any more ECHO device, Display device or other Amazon or Sony device that do not belong to my network.

    I currently (28nov2017) have the same issue. 

    Just found a site which identifies this device as an Amazon Fire 7 2017 Tablet.

    Still don't know how they are on my network unless it's part of Comcast Xfinitys "Free" WiFi created by Comcast to allow others to use all paid subscribers networks when they are supposedly away from home. I have also seen an Amazon Echo on my network as well. And Comcast wants to Kill Net Neutrality! Neighbors I suspect!

    In US, most of the modems nowadays have WIFI (and routing) capability.  I actually have to call Comcast to disable the modem WIFI and use my own router for WIFI activities.  Some users may not use WIFI but should make sure if their internet providers' modems have WIFI enabled or not.  My problem solved by disabling windows connect now service is related to WPS protocol which is related to WIFI.  If one is sure they do not have WIFI, then it is something else then.
