Windows 10 1709 its been out almost a month now and still no fix for the freezing bug issue, lots of people are having the same issue as me and none of your suggestion work  unlike the 1703 which didn't freeze for me but sadly 1709 does but seems like Microsoft hasn't acknowledge the problem yet..   #Microsoft fix it

Same here! Freezes at 54%! Before dism... and scannow... stopped at 36% or 53%. Since the fixes it goes reliably up to 54%! Great Job MS.

This issue goes around since ... right! Fall!!!! Should be a solid half year now! And still this huge crowd of programmers couldn't fix it?!?! Or is reluctant to fix it? Like in pharmaceutical industry: too few people having a desease -> no one starts research!

Is that it? Are we a minority here? Then just tell us and we'll switch OS! Promise!

I for sure wouldn't go to MAC, for me it would be Linux which I am using right now to write you these few lines. Funny enough the 1709 worked fine on the same machine under Linux 14.04 and in Virtualbox! Just the native install doesn't work.

Same here. Three devices, three HP laptops (one intel, two AMD). Also a Lynx tablet which seems now not to freeze following a BIOS fix released specifically to stop the tablet turning itself on and draining battery. All suggested fixes for Laptops tried with no success. I have noticed however, that both AMD devices do not freeze after rebooting (hard reset via power button that is).

Would be nice to see a fix for this, been an MS OS user since Win 3.11, and currently only use MS OS and Office 365 (even have a Win phone), otherwise I will have no choice but to switch to Mac OS.

The fact that the AMDs don't freeze after rebooting suggests that they might be good candidates for the "disable fast start" fix. Wonder if you have tried that particular fix? My AMD desktop has not frozen once in five weeks since I did that. (Previously freezing multiple times per week).

I completely agree. I disabled a fast start and I no longer hang.

HI EVERYBODY, SORRY FOR WRITING IN CAPS BUT I STARTED THIS THREAD. Please read thru my whole statement. FROM WHAT I CAN SEE OVER THESE PAST FEW MONTHS, SOME FOLKS HAVE HAD LUCK IN REINSTALLING WINDOWS, RESTORING WHEN THEY GOT A CHANCE TO, BUT BASICALLY--NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO COMPLETELY CORRECT WHAT 1709 DID TO THEIR PC's. Shame on you MS. Bill Gates, this is exactly the reason why IBM hired you, they had 54 OS's & in their new Capitalistic Democracy couldn't make a decision onto which OS to use. BG just came in & took several of them & crafted the DOS Windows system. He didn't do it in his garage. He didn't invent nothing new, just blended other peoples work. He was born into a very wealthy family & probably did it in his Penthouse. But still, BG, you were the fulcrum, so I grant you that. I used many of the suggestions mentioned by other folks & now my laptop is  close to the Intel core gen i7, 5th gen OS before 1709. However, there are still burps, but a lot less then there were. I suggest that you go thru the whole thread & see what other folks offered. I never reinstalled Win 10. I thought that would be a worst disaster than what I had & I believe I was correct in that. BUT, CAPS AGAIN:---IF STUFF FREEZES UP, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL & IT SHOULD BRING UP THE blue security screen. Then click on Task Mgr & every thing will unfreeze. Even if you have Task Manager open, it does not matter. That is the easiest quick solution. THAT IS THE EASIEST QUICK SOLUTION. I don't think MS knows how to fix it or even understands or cares what went wrong. They're cutting back in brains & staff, a natural decision, just like IBM, pre-BG. Hey, I've been thru more problems with computers than dogs have fleas, since the 60's. I don't see how that will change, just the problems. MS is at the same point in time that IBM was in the 80's.  A very big, high up, individual told me off the record in 1996 that our Tech was a gift going back to 1951, lol, not!  He said they were just waiting for the framework to transform the stuff they 1st wanted to use as weapon defense or offense or stuff like dat. He said the Tech explosion that was coming would make the last 100 yrs look primitive. He was right. Ctrl + Alt + Del. Click on Task Manager & all will unfreeze. MS shud probably pay me for figuring out this work-around & I will gladly accept whatever fees I may have saved them from customers suing them!--HA! LOL! ...........Gra agus Solas! To get rid of random hangs you need to disable the quick start. Helps everyone who works on AMD FX series processors.

Yes I would try the disabling Fast Shutdown.

It seems to have worked for me and for some other people.

You are right that a hard reset can mess things up so you don't want to be doing it too often. Obviously you have no choice when the computer freezes. So try the disable fast shutdown method to see if that helps.

Just google "windows 10 disable fast shutdown" for tips on how if needed.

If you do need to rollback it is pretty easy to do within the first 10 days from when you updated to version 1709. Sadly you might be just out of time on that :(
