Didn't have the 80248015 error but the imprecise "extremely long delay" mentioned by Retired-telco above seemed an eternity, so I fixed WU differently on my W7 Home machine by resetting the date to the last one I got regular updates. WU is fixed, but I Wonder how I got the updated authcab file since it doesn't appear as an update itself, nor does WU show any sign of update as such. Was authcab bundled with another file ? Could MS push invisible updates with an apparently non working WU ?

2017-12-11T02:17:52+00:00 I wonder if any of the fixes listed in this thread actually accomplished correcting the 80248015 error, or Microsoft fixed the bug. My 'fix' is the least likely to have changed Update, but again, anything is possible.
If some one gets the error, goes out to the coop and swings a live chicken over their head 3 times in a count-clockwise motion, goes back to their computer and now updates work...should we borrow someone's rooster?

2017-12-08T14:42:02+00:00 This worked for me and my users. I created a batch file.
net stop wuauserv
ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old
net start wuauserv
exit
Then run windows patches.
