I have a HP laptop (Model: 15-ac121na) using Windows 10 Home and for the last 3months ive been having problems with very slow internet speed. I tried so many different solutions to no avail and eventually i come across a temporary fix of rolling back the driver of the network adapter to version 2023.4.720.2015 however every time i close the laptop or restart it the network adapter updates itself again. This situation is bearable but now suddenly i keep getting window assistant pop ups constantly trying to download 5GB of updates. After giving in on what seems like the 1000th attempt to stop it i let the updates install and upon logging into my laptop i noticed the internet speeds had dropped again, i tried to roll back the driver but the option is now greyed out and i was stuck with just 54kbps on version 2023.58.731.2017!! I uninstalled the updates by going back to the previous windows build and now everything is back to normal (me rolling back the driver every so often) but im still getting windows assistant pop ups trying to install even after i went to control panel and deleted the application!
If anyone could help me with either deleting the assistant permanently or even my dodgy speeds i would be very greatful.

I get constant updates with the Windows 10 so-called Update Assistant, which is affecting the performance of my computer! I've got programmes such as Cortana that I don't need, and that seem to be spying on everything I do! Neither the Update Assistant nor Cortana could be uninstalled, at all!
The other problem is that I've got the general feel that Microsoft is now ran by robots and by humans!
Tried removing it, only to have it pop up 10 minutes later, remove it again and back it comes. Even with windows update set to disabled, all the task scheduler tasks removed and some really bad language it still comes back. Is there any way to permenantly stop the annoying thing?

For about the last week or so, the Windows Update Assistant has been wreaking havoc on my computer. It's constantly disrupting everything I'm trying to work on, even when I'm actively working. Every time I uninstall it, it reinstalls itself, which makes it, by definition, a Virus.
I would also like to know how Microsoft thinks that they have any right whatsoever to force updates and install programs without prior notice and without giving us any way to prevent this from happening. That is, by definition, hacking and hijacking. Microsoft does not own our computers. WE own our computers. And how do we know for absolute certain that Microsoft is not spying on us, or stealing our personal files, or stealing our personal information when they are accessing our computers to force the updates? I am not making an accusation. I am asking a legitimate question that every Windows 10 user should be asking. How does Microsoft either not realize or not care about the humongous amount of liability that they've opened themselves up to by forcing updates. To everyone who is as bothered by all of this as I am: I recommend filing Better Business Bureau complaints against Microsoft, and contacting your local ACLU Office to ask them to get involved to make Microsoft stop being able to take control of our computers.

I deleted Windows Update Assistant and it appeared back in my program list this morning and started trying to update windows again.

I tried this several time, but without success, it keeps re-installing itself.
On youtube, I found a way to disable the updates through the Control Panel - Administrative tools - Services - Windows Updates and I am trying it to see if it works. I know that this will prevent any windows update to install, but if it works, I will try the manual option.
I have had many issues with Windows 10 on this computer (version 1703 always failed to install and that is the reason why I am with version 1607) For example, the last update (just before the Windows 10 upgrade assistant appeared on my computer) stopped a first time at 75% and when I restarted the computer, it stopped a second time at 81% before reverting to the old version on the second restart of the computer. Every attempt by the assistant failed.
I am sure I am not the only one with these types of problems and I grow every time more frustrated with Microsoft and its windows operating system which I used to like in the early days but I now hate every day a little bit more.
