How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    Installing this update manually before the broken update had a chance to install fixed the boot issue on my AMD Athlon64 X2. Thanks for the link!

    Other users are not offering third party solutions and the 'wushowhide' is taken from the Microsoft website. If you care to trust a few of us here who are trying to assist you with your problem, then you may learn something!

    If you download the 'wushowhide' from this link: - http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab

    you will get a window similar to this one, simply run it and block what ever update you like from Microsoft.

    AWAY MICROSOFT!!! TELL US HOW TO BLOCK THIS OFFICIALLY! Instead of other users offering 3rd part solutions that for all we know could be dodgy. You know it's a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'm on the Creators Fall version 1709 16299.125 and had the same problem of the blue Window on restart.

    To put this 4056892 non fix on hold :-

    Used the Update Advanced Settings to switch on the Pause Updates (Feb12th)

    Then from CMD as admin:-

    net stop wuauserv                           (was already stopped! maybe because all updates paused until Feb 12th?)

    rmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution  /s /q

    net start wuauserv        (not restarted)

    exit

    So over to you at Redmond ......
