How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    Be advised, AMD is finally releasing a patch to fix this issue.

    Watch for updates from your Computer Manufacturer, as well as AMD and Microsoft on their progress with this.

    If AMD hadn't kept insisting they didn't need a patch....

    They would have been ready...like ARM and INTEL were when the patch was released.

    Me too! However, after doing a System Restore (*sigh* yet again), I rushed to start wushowhide immediately the machine restarted, and this time it did work.

    It looked like it wasn't working, until all the available updates had been applied, after which wushowhide (finally) showed the excluded KB4056892.

    Thank you for pointing out this program. In my case, at least, it has worked, albeit only after the second attempt.

    For me it caused multiple bluescreens with UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP at ntoskrnl.exe+1756e0, i uninstalled it now and hope that fixed it.

    This is actually a Lenovo ThinkStation M93p with Intel Core i7-4790 CPU.

    I used

    wusa /uninstall /kb:4056892

    to uninstall it and disabled updates in the Windows Update settings.

    What I have been reading about this issue is that Microsoft was working with the specs for the AMD processors that was obtained from AMD.   The specs were wrong so this isn't entirely Microsoft's problem however Microsoft says that it has stopped sending the update top AMD based computers is a complete fabrication or an outright lie. As the AMD based computers that I have keeps getting the "bad file.:

    That is the only other option remaining from Services select Windows Update and from properties select 'Stop'.

    Bear in mind that in deactivating this process will stop all future Microsoft Updates and will mean your PC will become vulnerable to hacks or weakness's in your operating system.
