How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    Sounds like it's happening to a lot of AMD machines. Mine is doing the same thing. 

    Dell with Intel chips as well...Come on Microsoft....fix the issue.. I tried several times and failed

    There may be better options, but I uninstalled KB4056892 and blocked further updates for the time being, which is far from ideal but keeps my machine running.

    In Microsoft's "haste" to fix the cpu exploit issue they essential broke many user's machines due to their "flawed implementation" to the update process. Great job Microsoft.

    Hi,

    Machines with Intel processors have severe issues too.

    My MSI Apache with an i7-6700 fails to install the update as well. It's stuck at 99% progress and can no longer be restarted or shut down - only a forced power down via the power button can turn it off.

    Upon every subsequent bootup Windows is "Updating your computer..." for more than 20 minutes!!! before finally letting me in to my OS.

    This is super annoying and unacceptable!

    Please fix this ASAP!

    I have tried the workaround with the 'wushowhide.diagcab', but it fails to detect any hidden or pending updates? No help there.

    Another way is to search for Windows Update, then Advanced, then Pause Updates. That will stop it for 35 days, Maybe enough time for a newer update that works. 

    I have update KB4056892 waiting to update. Every time I try I get stuck on the blue windows logo. Then I have to go into diagnostic mode and revert to a restore point. 

    I have Windows 10 Pro with an older AMD Athlon chip
