Print job goes into queue and instantly disappears with nothing being printed

For some reason my system has stopped working correctly with one of my printers. The system sees the printer as being connected and available and when I print the job goes to the print queue. However it then instantly disappears and nothing is printed. Can someone advise?

The printer with the problem is an Epson Stylus Photo 1290. The printer was working a couple of days ago and the only thing I can think that has happened is that there was an automatic windows update.

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 15063.726

I have tried: starting and stopping the print spooler, uninstalling the driver, running the trouble shooter, rebooting ...

Any help welcome.

Thanks,

Chris.

Note: 28/11/2017 - I have had an email from Epson who confirm the problem is caused by a change introduced by Microsoft. As a result they have no fix for the problem and say that if I wish to continue using the latest version of Windows 10 then I need to buy a new printer or wait for Microsoft to introduce a change (which may never happen). This is hugely disappointing and is also not very environmentally friendly.

Based on your post on printing, I think that the Microsoft Virtual Agent can help you troubleshoot your issue. It'll walk you through the right troubleshooting steps based on the specific problem you're facing.

Please let us know if this solved your issue.

    Hi Lancher

thanks for finding and experimenting with this, I will go through the same steps and let you know if it works.

You are right, it would be nice if MS felt in any way responsible for publicizing these issues. At this time however it is good to see that there has actually been a response, so somebody is paying attention.

    Hi everyone,

there seems to be a fix from MS available for the KB4560960 printer issues:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4567512/windows-10-update-kb4567512

Please note that you have to manually install it. It's described in the note.

    Original note:

Didn't try it myself yet, I'll have to find some spare time. Please let us know if this works for you.

    Thanks all for the sharings.

I decided to take one for the team and gave it a go. I'm running Win 10 Pro Version 1909 OS Build 18363.836. I downloaded the fix and made ready to sail.

I had already uninstalled and blocked KB4560960. After checking I could print, I unblocked and installed KB4560960. After a restart, I couldn't print. I then installed the fix and again following a restart, I could print again.

So the result is yes the fix works.

I'm going to run the 2004 feature update and will update the post afterwards.

Still can't understand how MS don't push these fixes or even their existence out.

Not only are they maintaining radio silence, the offending update KB4560960 is still being pushed out. I've just put a 2nd PC online to use until the patch arrives and it has installed the bogey patch. So now I'll have to uninstall it and then use Microsoft's “Show or hide updates” troubleshooter app to block this particular patch.

Hey ho - onwards and upwards.

    Good Day to you all,

After 6 days agonising to resolve the printing issue, I have managed to get my printer going again (with remote assistance from LOndon).

I went into Microsoft Update Catalogue and selected the last one that is appropriate to my Windows 10 Version 1903 and updated. Here is the link.

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4567512

I pray that it works for you. Keep safe.

    Kind Regards from Down Under
