Print job goes into queue and instantly disappears with nothing being printed

For some reason my system has stopped working correctly with one of my printers. The system sees the printer as being connected and available and when I print the job goes to the print queue. However it then instantly disappears and nothing is printed. Can someone advise?

The printer with the problem is an Epson Stylus Photo 1290. The printer was working a couple of days ago and the only thing I can think that has happened is that there was an automatic windows update.

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 15063.726

I have tried: starting and stopping the print spooler, uninstalling the driver, running the trouble shooter, rebooting ...

Any help welcome.

Thanks,

Chris.

Note: 28/11/2017 - I have had an email from Epson who confirm the problem is caused by a change introduced by Microsoft. As a result they have no fix for the problem and say that if I wish to continue using the latest version of Windows 10 then I need to buy a new printer or wait for Microsoft to introduce a change (which may never happen). This is hugely disappointing and is also not very environmentally friendly.

Based on your post on printing, I think that the Microsoft Virtual Agent can help you troubleshoot your issue. It'll walk you through the right troubleshooting steps based on the specific problem you're facing.

Please let us know if this solved your issue.

I have a brother MFC-5890CN that will not print this morning after last nights update.

I found it to be the Security Update for Adobe Flash Player. When I uninstalled that I was able to print PDFs again to my printer.

    Hi,

This is dragging on now and the problem remains - it is quite clearly a problem introduced by the recent updates. Can you please communicate on the status of the fix and/or point me in the direction of a work-around etc.

    Thank you.

I have been trying to resolve the exact same problem with a wifi connected HP Officejet pro 8710 which up until 2 updates ago was printing perfectly. I suspected it was connected to the first update and hence waited until the next one to see if it went away. I have completely deleted all printer set up files and drivers, cleared out the spooler and reinstalled the printer now 2 times and the problem persists. Both the HP and Microsoft troubleshooters say they can not find a problem. The job appears in the queue , the printer starts up as if to print , the queue says that is printing and then it disappears without a print coming out. I have paused the queue and printed several jobs in a row which appear sequentially in the queue. When I remove the pause the printer starts up and  each one of the jobs shows as printing in turn until they have all gone from the queue but still nothing prints.

I am running Win 10, Vers: 1909, OS build 18363.836. The last major updates are as follows:

ON 3-4-20   2020-02 KB4537572 CUMULATIVE UPDATE TO .NET FRAMEWORK

    ON 4-14-20   2020-04 KB4549951 CUMULATIVE UPDATE TO VERS 1909

    ON 5-12-20   2020-05 KB4556799 CUMULATIVE UPDATE TO VERS 1909

ON 5-12-20   2020-05 KB4552931 CUMULATIVE UPDATE TO .NET FRAMEWORK

I have the same printer connected over the same wifi to another laptop running Win 10, 1909, build 18363.778  which can print just fine.

Updates on that machine are as follows:

ON 2-14-20   2020-02 KB4534132 CUMULATIVE UPDATE TO .NET FRAMEWORK

    ON 3-14-20   2020-03 KB4551762 CUMULATIVE UPDATE TO VERS 1909

    ON 4-27-20   2020-04 KB4549951 CUMULATIVE UPDATE TO VERS 1909

It appears as if the only major difference is in that PC2  is not updated by either of the 2020-05 updates that have been applied to PC1, which is odd because this problem started on PC1 after the application of 2020-04 update on 4-14-20. Any response will be appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    Charles Eldon
