track numbers in front of song names in windows music library, windows 7

No!  I am not talking about songs.  In my computer, under music i opened files to catagorize my music......ie:  60,s music, 70,s and 80,s music, country etc.  That way when i wanted to copy music to flash, i had music in types files.  When i moved these files to documents.....they were still under their appropriate files.  Somewhere i lost file name ie: country, 80,s etc.  My music is all run together in alpha.  This included my videos.  So........i had backed these files onto a flash stick....thank god.....and my question is:  can i somehow copy these files into my windows music library?  In docs now i have over 5000 songs all in alpha order.

Just so I can get a clear picture, how did you check the contents of your C:\Users\Username\Documents file?

Did you use Windows Explorer?

Would you like to know how use Windows Explorer to instantly sort out all the music files from everything else?

By the way, I am running WMP 12 on a Windows 7 computer, so if Ric needs any Win 7 specific info, just rattle my cage.

The mysterious E: drive is a creation of WMP to help it keep track of what it is doing when it is Ripping music. It is like making a list to go to the store. WMP stores bits and pieces of file information in that E: drive space to speed up the process. We mere Users are not expected to even know it is there.

When you say you backed up with separate filenames, on my end I am thinking, of course you did, because there is no other way. All files need unique filenames or Windoze gets really confused.

So, did you make different Folders?

Too much information, but these files were ripped as .WAV files, they should still have Album and Title tags. They can be sorted by Album and by Artist in WMP. That may make it easier to restore your Playlists. But I fear that you need to do that manually.

It sounds like you lost the Playlists, not the music. That was the idea of clearing the AppData.

Um, when you say "title", I am assuming you mean the Title tag on the files. Music files can have many Tags. the "Title" is a Tag. If the File had a Title Tag when it was moved, it should still have a Title tag. So, when opened or used by WMP, it should show a Title as well as a Filename.

Ric, while we are doing all of this..................I have a question.   Is MS going to come out with another software other than windows 10?  Also, again...........what is a good alternative to WMP that I can also export my amazon music to?  I don't want one too complicated or in depth.  My usage would be:  exporting music from amazon, possibilly ripping a cd, definately backing up onto flash sticks for my car.  That's about it.   Oh...........and listeniing to music on a music player like fiio.  I have windows 10 on my laptop and its a pain in the butt.  Maybe because I am use to windows 7.  Anyway, any help or suggestions welcome.
