Hi,  while most recent (14/02/18) auto updates were installing they failed and windows removed failed files. Problem error code 0x800f0992 appeared, not sure what to do as website does not explain how to cure problem with any clarity. Possibly to do with NET framework. Should I wait for possible patch/workaround.

your usual expertise would be appreciated.

regards Rob.

Hi Rob,

Error 0x800f0922 occurs when downloading the newest update of Windows 10. It also means that you have less than 500 MB in system reserved partition. You may follow the methods provided below and check if you'll be able to update your device.

Method 1. Check your Internet connection

You need to make sure that you have an internet connection and if possible, you are using wired connections

Method 2. Check .NET Framework

Make sure you have the latest version of NET Framework installed. You may enable it in Windows features. Here's how:

  1. Type Windows Features on the search bar and press Enter.
  2. Select Turn Windows Features on or off.
  3. Check any boxes related to DotNet Framework and save selection.
  4. Restart your PC.

Method 3. Turn off your Firewall

We know that this is strange doing, but even Firewall can prevent updates occasionally. Here's how you can turn it off:

  1. Type Firewall on the search bar and press Enter.
  2. Open Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
  3. Turn off Firewall for both private and public networks.
  4. Save your selection.
  5. After saving your selection, you may try updating your device.

Let us know if you find this helpful. We will be glad to assist you further.

I have had this twice now on my Surface Book 2 with two different builds of Windows 10.. since purchase, there is only one real fix until MS make the Windows 10 Updates more stable. and that is to re-install Windows.

I have spent countless hours trawling through forums trying this, editing that, deleting this nothing works, the drive Partition size I wouldn't even try to change those, first time I resolved this with a complete backup of my data etc. and a complete re-install of Windows 10, but then I had to spend a long time re-installing all my apps and restoring my personal files etc. from backups.

via web browser go to aka.ms/winup or https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Download the "Create Windows 10 installation media" tool and run it, follow the prompts, and you will eventually get to a screen similar to this, you don't need to create an ISO/DVD or USB image...

you can safely do this and keep all personal data files and installed apps without any problems, with this tool there are now THREE options, you need to select the one KEEP PERSONAL FILES AND APPS

Wait for the software to download what it needs etc.

Let it download the Windows 10 Image etc. then accept the license info, and let it get the updates etc. then click install (you can check the 3 options if needed)

At this screen just hit INSTALL and wait, you will be back up and running without any major loss of data or apps:

The latest version allows in an in-situ repair without the need for USB/DVD Media. The Steps are logical and you just need to follow them, if you are sensible you will still backup and important data, but Roberto B. from the

Surface Support team assured me that it was safe, and so far I am back up and running without having to spend 2 days restoring data and re-installing apps!

This is NOT a fix, more of a Workaround, but this worked for me, and I am happy to say I am back up with minimal fuss, but it would help if this had not happened in the first place! ;-) thanks Roberto!

    Hi,

I used 'AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition 8.8'. the free version.  It took 11 hours to run so plan your time.  (Old PC)

    I added 500mg from my c drive.

Not sure if it's fixed the problem yet as just about to reboot it all with the installs.

I'm having issues with this error with the "2020-04 Cumulative update"

    • Partition space
      • I have no Idea which partition is the reserved to see if that is the issue. Image is of my OS(C:) drive

    • Method 1
      • I'm posting this from the computer that is having the issue so I don't think that is the issue
    • Method 2
      • Mine don't have check-marks the are black squares and can be expanded and when expanded there are items without check-marks.

    • Method 3
      • Have not tried this, but I want to try other things before I try to turn off the firewall

We found that service "App Readiness" needed to be enabled. We had disabled it via GP it to try and speed up login process, but every single Windows 10 update that required a reboot (E.g. cumulative updates) failed with error 0x800f0992.

Windows 7 updates had worked fine and it was only upgrading to Windows 10 did we see this issue.

Re-enabling "App Readiness" service solved this issue for us after we had fruitlessly tried many other suggestions on the various forums.

The App Readiness change is what solved this issue for me on my Home PC. I had tried numerous other solutions including the solutions selected in this thread to no avail. I even talked to Dell support and they just wanted to reinstall Windows 10 which I did not want to do. Thanks Jeff for pointing this one out.

By the way the below link shows you how to change the App readiness service. Changing it to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" worked.
