Windows Update Error 0x800f0922

Hi,  while most recent (14/02/18) auto updates were installing they failed and windows removed failed files. Problem error code 0x800f0992 appeared, not sure what to do as website does not explain how to cure problem with any clarity. Possibly to do with NET framework. Should I wait for possible patch/workaround.

your usual expertise would be appreciated.

Hi Rob,

Error 0x800f0922 occurs when downloading the newest update of Windows 10. It also means that you have less than 500 MB in system reserved partition. You may follow the methods provided below and check if you'll be able to update your device.

Method 1. Check your Internet connection

You need to make sure that you have an internet connection and if possible, you are using wired connections

Method 2. Check .NET Framework

Make sure you have the latest version of NET Framework installed. You may enable it in Windows features. Here's how:

  1. Type Windows Features on the search bar and press Enter.
  2. Select Turn Windows Features on or off.
  3. Check any boxes related to DotNet Framework and save selection.
  4. Restart your PC.

Method 3. Turn off your Firewall

We know that this is strange doing, but even Firewall can prevent updates occasionally. Here's how you can turn it off:

  1. Type Firewall on the search bar and press Enter.
  2. Open Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
  3. Turn off Firewall for both private and public networks.
  4. Save your selection.
  5. After saving your selection, you may try updating your device.

    Hi Justine, thanks for your rapid response! It has been very helpful: the problem is solved 👌😊!!!!

    However, I do have two questions: 

    1. The update KB4523205 has (apparently) been performed, but there's no record of that. Subsequently other updates are performed of which a track record is made. Why is this update not in the 'update history'?
    2. Why is the 'update history' before this update not visible anymore?

    I run into this error while trying to install Request Monitor feature of IIS. In order to troubleshoot it, I would recommend checking:

    • CBS logs (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS)
    • DISM logs (C:\Windows\Logs\DISM)
    • ApplicationHost.config file (C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config)
    • The output of Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth command
    • Procmon logs (Use Process Monitor tool)

    In my case Procmon logs showed PARSE_ERROR_INFO while reading applicationHost.config file which was corrupted. Reinstalling IIS solved the issue. 0x800f0922 Update IIS-RequestMonitor of package IIS-WebServer-Core-Package failed

    As there was only one update this would not work, please see my response to GanpatMandal. 

    complete restore of Windows 10 and install all updates prior to reinstalling all my apps and personal data files etc.

    1 day of my life completely wasted, but now I can work without the failed updates restarting and rolling back which could take up to forty minutes.
