Hello. I'm quite unhappy with my entire experience. I have had to contact support multiple times because my computer "wasn't on the list" of computers able to run the latest updates. I find this incredibly ironic, as it has 8gb of ram, lots of disk space, and a very nice processor (~2.6ghz). I have had my agents help me as much as they could, and that wasn't the bad part, they did great! For a day... Somehow, even after they went and did the whole thing about delaying updates for 8 months or so, The Windows 10 update installer app downloaded. It has hogged me for the past week, with me having to abort multiple updates, not wanting to lose my pc again. I am a student, and can not afford a new one, but just recently I gave up and let it update. It quit out halfway through, as usual, and went back to the same condition it was at. Nothing works.
This is not like last time, I had to get a Windows 10 system on a usb, and repair my boot loader last time. This time, Windows simply won't do anything. It's currently telling me the only option left is a hard reset.
I have physically tried everything besides a hard reset. I refuse. Why should I lose my personal belongings, when it's out of my control? This is not an issue with anything except Windows. What can be done about this? I am very disappointed in the fact this has ruined my computer, I really hope you can do something about this.

Some wonderful person here posted a way to stop the updates from automatically downloading.. go into network settings click on the wifi or ethernet connection and change it to metered connection. If your connection is metered it might cost for download so it lets you decide if you want to download it.
same here, this is the 5th time going back to windows xp that one of their updates has cause huge problems. One resulting in destroying my pc when it froze during a reset which they recommended and most recently the last update caused over 20 hours of being on the pc with tech support. When the issue was resolved the tech disconnected and 10 mins later the update failed due to windows installer attempting to access the update. Tech was controlling the desktop. But no big deal, I will just shut off auto updater and contact them again to work their magic with a work around cause I did not want to fresh start my pc and the tech found the solution so next tech up, i explained to him the entire deal and he started moving and opening things the other tech did not..I jump into conversation and told him the other guy didn't do this and my only problem was that the auto updater interrupted the download and I just needed the update the other guy went to so it can be reinstalled which was in windows media player, I was told, do not worry i am going to fix it. Boom...fresh start! I'm not an idiot I know I can do that on my own the whole reason I contacted them was because that was last thing I wanted to do. Did they care? nope. so then I had to spend hours restoring files moving them back to locations and that update made all users auto have one drive, sorry but my kids do not need that and everything wanted to save to onedrive and files were out of place, permissions needed to be set..huge mess!!! and now, here we go again with this latest update...every time an update screws up my pc and after troubleshooting for hours I contact support and It always seems i'm the only one ever that has had the issue that im having and its never a simple fix. over microsoft shoving updates down our throats and having no fix for the problems they have...DO BETTER MICROSOFT!
Dell would provide your Bios Update if you checked with them. It's as easy as downloading and installing any other update and your refusal to do so is causing you needless problems.
In the photo below you will see where I circled "Detect my PC" that is probably the easiest way to find the updates from Dell that will, in turn, help YOUR computer to run Windows 10. You need to update both your device AND your Operating System. Not just one of the two.

I can't find where you set the internet as a metered connection. Can you direct me to it?

I found out that if you set your internet as a metered connection on Windows 10, then Microsoft can't update your computer. In that way, we can update when we choose. We can wait until they get the bugs worked out.
