I am glad to see that you realize that this feature can offer some needed protection.

It is a shame that Microsoft has not seen fit to make it a bit more user friendly.

That being said, maybe they will soon.

There is a procedure that you can use to determine the complete path for any App

that is causing you a problem. I am assuming that you already know how to use the

Path information to allow an App to pass through Controlled Folder Access.

If that isn't so, please return to this thread, and I will describe that procedure.

You can find the complete path information for any troublesome App, in the Event

Viewer.

Open the Event Viewer, and allow it time to populate. Once you see that it has, you

should navigate through the Viewer as follows:

Applications and Services >Microsoft >Windows >Windows Defender >Operational.

In the Operational log, search for Event ID 1123 or 1127. Right click on the line for

that entry, and select "Event Properties". In the Properties panel, you can find the Path

information that you need, following "Process Name". Write it down for later use.

If you have a problem finding Event ID 1123 and 1127, you can filter your log.

On the right side of the screen, select "Create Custom View".

On the Custom View panel, select <All Event IDs>, and enter 1123,1127 and click OK.

Just click OK on the next panel, and only the logs that you desire, are displayed.

View them as described above, and write down any  path information that you

are searching for. There may be some here, that you don't want to allow to pass.

Use your own judgement.

That's a stupid solution. Controlled Folder access is there for a reason. Protection!

But the given solution  is the only solution that is workable. Why?

The real issue here is Microsoft made a lousy implementation of this much needed function.

If they would have made a button (Allow/Disallow) on the pop-up message, their function would probably serve it's  purpose.

Now its a nagging problem for all Win Users and gets turned of in the majority of cases.

Also the process to manually allow a program access to the folder is flawed. You can not see which program is causing the trouble because the pop-up  does not show the whole address but something like c:/windows/do........./csc.exe. And there are many csc.exes on my system.

So Microsoft make this simple alteration that makes a needed function manageable and user friendly.

I'm turning this function off, although I really need is.
