Windows 10 rollback stuck

A client of mine has a Windows 10 desktop she bought a couple of years ago. Last week a user (we think her grandson) tried to rollback to a previous version of Windows. But, since Windows 10 is the original OS on the computer, it's stuck. Asks for keyboard language, then gives options to run Windows rollback or Windows 10. When you choose, it reboots and goes right back to the keyboard options. How can I get past this and fix the issue?

Hi Andrea,

Corrupted system files after trying to rollback are one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. Usually, restarting the computer should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists even after restarting your computer, we recommend repairing Windows thru Advanced options. Follow the steps below:

  1. Press F8 while booting your computer to access System Recovery options.
  2. Click Troubleshoot.
  3. Select Command Prompt.
  4. Enter the following commands below, then press Enter after each command:
    • chkdsk c: /f
    • bootrec /fixmbr
    • bootrec /fixboot
    • bootrec /rebuildbcd
    • bcdboot c:\windows /s c:
  5. Once done with the above commands, restart your computer and see if the problem is fixed.

    This is unbelievable, i have the same problem as all of you, HELLO MICROSOFT HELLO!!!!!!!!!!

    If i download a windows 10 iso like you are suggesting and reinstall windows keeping my files, will i lose my windows genuine? I dont have a  windows key, the computer came with windows 8 when i buy it and then it updated to windows 10, and now this stupid update broke it...... Will it be genuine after i reinstall it?or will i have to buy a windows key?

    Yes, basically.  But for me, I had no Reset PC option. So it's more for the people who are stuck without a Reset PC option and don't know what to do.  Figured I'd make it simple for people who had no idea.

    So it your method the exact same as Reset PC and choosing to Keep Your Files?

    You have to paste the desktop folder that you copy in the location that the error is saying to you (usually C/:WINDOWS/system32/config/systemprofile/), the error must desappear and the things taht you had in your desktop before the update must be back.

    Remember that this is just for solving that error and then try to backup your personal files how I say in previous replys, this won't solve the rollback loop update problem and still your windows button and files explorer wont work. 

    If you want to copy or backup your personal files I already explain in detail what do you need to do in the previous pages of this post, find it and make a backup cause the only solution that now we can have for this problem is format the entire drive and erase the pc to make a new fresh installation of Windows (if you want to know how to do this fresh intallation propertly is in this post and previous pages too and it's by Mr Juan Pablo G.C)
