can't update spyware and virus definitions

Why no updating? Can you help me deleted and erase the Avast, hotspot shield, and chromium because it is pointless to have those things. Only thing I need is google and internet explorer that's all plus windows defender to be updated on regular terms. Sorry that I installed far too many things on it which I did not really need that was on Monday 3 days ago, clicked on run and save.

Well, it is obvious to have the title, "Windows Defender - Virus and spyware definitions couldn't be updated," as you see I couldn't do anything last night, when my laptop restarted and couldn't reboot again until this afternoon after I tried five time to put out my laptop's battery and then finally to disconnect the Wi Fi. Now, it is working again. However, the matter is if hackers can hide and elaborate their malware software better from time to time, so why Window Defender can't not do the same?
