Windows phone discontinued?

Really?  Are we brainwashed that the only person who does cars good is the first one that got there?  No one can build a better home coz Pulte perfected mass production...  If that were the case, there would  monopolies all over.  Always check the options available in the market on the day you are looking to spend your hard earned money.  If Windows Phone does it, remember, Microsoft is not a small fish that will disappear. Check you options properly!!  You might end up with the ad infested google apps.  I am not criticizing Google.  Just trying to put forth an objective view.  Most of the apps you install are typically junk.  The phone does three things very well in today's day and age:

1.  Communication - Audio and video calls are most likely going to be swell on these phones considering the hardware specs are better than most android phones.

2.  Browsing - I can bet this phone will not disappoint at most browsing.

3.  Pictures - Since you have the phone always handy, cameras were bound to reduce.  The specs on this phone are not bad.

As for each variation of phone you'll buy, there will be quirks.  If your aim is to buy the latest and greatest, go right ahead.  But don't bet against MS because you believe its not the hottest gadget.  I remember a coworker bashing MS and Windows NT years ago.  He currently works for MS.

I'm betting against Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO.  It has been on HIS WATCH that this BAD DECISION to get rid of Windows Phones.

I am a Windows Phone user since model 7. It was a Samsung. I liked the tiles. Over time they added the apps I'd use. I didn't see a reason to look for another. I think it was March last year when my then four months old 950XL had a sharper screen than the other guys' phones at the pub. So I even had that gadget moment despite the known Microsoft story in the phone business. 

Like any large organization, not all decisions at Microsoft are rational. No one can really know what will happen to the phones until it happens. If I were the boss, I wouldn't want to keep a loss maker (assuming that is the case). But then I'd have to keep the devices that are sold until today running for several years. So the math is about which option costs more: Continue or discontinue? If I can sell another million phones with a new high-end model, does it make the numbers look any better? Can I make it a sales pitch for corporate customers somehow as contingency plan? Shall I push music and movies to the paying Windows OS customers as a bundle and mirror it on the phones?

Questions, questions...

Web browsing on Edge is terrible. Very few websites even work.

I agree. After a 1020 and a 640XL I am tired of the software disasters. The latest was replacing the Lumia camera with the Microsoft camera. The Microsoft camera just doesn't work - after a few photos it locks up on "saving". This has been reported for almost two years, and the FEEDBACK hub is staffed by a robot which asks for a model number and then never replies.

If Microsoft is releasing another phone, I wont be in the queue the night before. Come to think of it, nobody will be.

Marsidotes, I'm so sorry that we've All been taken for a very BAD ride.  What do you say that we demand our money back IN FULL.  Sometimes, people & companies get too big for their britches.  You know what happens then?  Yeah, well this time it happened to US, BECAUSE THEY COULD.  Or, have they?

REFUND OUR MONEY MICROSOFT, ASAP

...but there are persistent rumours of Microsoft working on a new line of Microsoft branded phones marketed as the Surface Phone. Latest rumours are for release in late 2017/ supposed to feature the new snapdragon 835 octacore processor and GPU. Further rumours suggest compatibility with normal x86 programs when it is run on continuum.

Still these rumours have not been formally substantiated by Microsoft.
