windows phone 8.1 facebook messenger "waiting for network error"

This error appeared on my Lumia 1020 and Lumia 630 on the same day. I open the messenger app and it just sits in a "waiting for network" state.

It goes without saying that I haven't changed anything on the phones, and it is a huge coincidence if this happened to two phones at the same time.

Facebook have not helped. Anybody else seen this error and do you have a fix?

I upgraded my phone to WIN 10 and after that, there was avaiable a new version of facebook and messenger for WIN 10 on store and it works perfectly. So people, upgrade your phones then download the W10 versions of apps from store and enjoy your phone 🙂

    I have had a reply from Facebook support and basically it appears they have dropped Windows phone completely. Their advice is the same as my advice, use the mobile browser for FB. Or buy Apple or Android :-(

    Thank you for the information. It is an unreasonable approach in my view, to actually stop an app working because support is ending. Dropping an OS Platform is also unhelpful but I can understand that more.

    For some reason I still get notifications on the phone, and using FB from the browser allows you to send messages.

    This is a work-around even if it is not ideal

    Not funny! Absolutely not!

    I paid for a device which can use messenger!!!!!!!

    Give me back all functions!
