Hi Regile,
Thank you for responding
I doubt that you will see this reply. They have merged my
question into this discussion thread.
Our problem is not with Windows Defender, but with Windows Defender Offline as it applies
to Windows 7. Therefore, we have no problem with Microsoft Updates. WDO for Windows 7
definition updates are obtained by using one of the
downloads (MSSSTOOLS) that you defined
with your "LINK". The TOOL is used to create a Media USB, by "fetching" the WDO Program and
the Latest Definitions from Microsoft. The Media USB is made BOOTABLE.
Booting this Media USB loads the WDO program with definitions for Windows 7 machines.
Our problem is that the WDO program we just downloaded fails to function properly. After it
loads, it immediately declares that the Definitions Are OUT OF DATE. It does NOT check the
viability of the definitions that were supplied on the USB. Instead, it attempts to DOWNLOAD
definitions from Microsoft immediately.
Of course , most Windows 7 machines do not have internet connectivity while booted to the
Media USB. This causes the error 80072ee7. WDO is now dead in the water!
There are exceptions. I have an old DELL 8300 P4 32 bit, that will connect, booted to the USB.
On that machine I can see that it declares the DEFs are Out Of Date as soon as WDO loads, just
like all my other computers. Without any action from me, after about two minutes, it declares
the definitions are UP TO DATE and displays their version # on the update tab of the program.
It downloaded the definitions directly into the loaded WDO program. It does this regardless of
the version # of the definitions on the USB. The program will scan normally after this.
I am fairly certain Windows Defender Offline on Windows 7 uses the same definitions as
Defender and Defender Offline on W10. Perhaps the Offline programs for W10 and W7 are
related as well. Since this problem became apparent after the release of W10 CREATORS
update, is it possible that some change made to WDO for that has made it incompatible with
the Windows 7 application? I apologize for the length of this dissertation.
Thanks, Glen
