Public WiFi login page not showing in Windows 10

I am using a new Asus laptop that came installed with Windows 10, and currently I can find no redeeming features for this operating system whatsoever. The OS takes up over 15GB of a 30GB HDD, I have barely used the thing and its running out of space. It is choc full of "apps" that are of zero use and interest to me. But this latest problem is so frustrating that I would sell my organs to return to Windows 7 or XP or 98 or 95...

Basically I cannot use public WiFi anywhere because the login/confirmation screens won't load in any browser, the system just hijacks the browser with some security nonsense. I've turned off the firewall, made sure to allow everything I need to within the browser settings, and still nothing works. This sort of problem, if it happens on any other platform, is usually a simple fix. But nothing I do seems to make any difference in Windows 10. I don't have any third party security software installed, so there really is no obvious cause of this problem. But its a serious problem because my Windows 10 computer is frankly useless to me until this is sorted out.

Also, the computer keeps asking me to check my security settings ahead of some "creators update". Dear Microsoft, I want my computer working the way I need to use it, and unless that is what your update plans to allow me to do I am going to start learning everything I can about Linux.

Hi,

I had the same problem.

I solved it using http://fixwifi.it/

It's a page that triggers the login page and forces it to appear. Hope it works for you!

I am at a hotel, I had the same issue and after trying and trying the thing that fixed it was plain and simple:

I would suggest you to update the latest driver for network adapter under Device Manager.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Then type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.

3. Expand Network Adapter.

4. Right click on the wireless driver and click on Uninstall.

  1. Then restart your computer and it will reinstall the wireless network driver.

    Hi,

I spent an hour doing everything I could and nothing worked. But this worked like a magic. Thank you so much.

No, that does not work for my problem, it was one of the first things I tried.

I have since determined that, when this happens, I haven't received a response from the WiFi network's DHCP.  I now believe that this public WiFi network, that has multiple WAPs (Wireless Access Points), either has one or more of those WAPs that do not have access to, at least, the network's DHCP server or the DHCP server only has a very limited number of IP addresses and all available addresses had already been assigned to other clients and refuses to respond to any requests when it cannot issue any further IP addresses.

Since I am unable to get an IP address for my laptop when connecting to this network, trying to go to any web page will fail.

I have informed this organization's information office of the problem but they cannot give me an email address for their information services department or information or if they are using an outside vendor to manage this public WiFi network.

    Thank you for suggestion though.

I was having the same issue, tried multiple WIFI networks but none would trigger the web browser automatic login page to open meaning I couldn’t connect.

I had Nord VPN installed on my computer which was running in the background.

When I closed the program and reponened the browser it instantly connected to the login page.

I’d suggest trying the same thing if you have any VPN software installed on your computer.

I had Nord VPN but mainly for my Android phone (which did not have this log in issue when either Nord VPN was active or not) then I realized that when I had Nord VPN active on the cell phone, my cell phone could not receive MMS messages.  I finally got Nord to admit that it and other VPN's cause this issue because when you have a vpn active the phone cannot access the carrier's DNS server to retrieve MMS messages.   Because of this issue and at first Nord tried to claim it was a problem with my carrier, I cancelled my subscription to Nord.

I don't think your solution will work anyways because I do not even get a valid IP address from the Wireless Access Point's DNS server.  Also, I do not have a VPN installed on my laptop to test out your possible solution.

I have found that sometimes I can get it to work but I may have to try disconnecting and reconnecting several times.  I now tend to think this is actually an issue with the DNS server not having enough IP addresses available.  Unfortunately, the organization that is providing the WiFi hotspot does not allow me to contact their Information Services personnel or outside vendor to even discuss this or other issues I've had when I have gotten it to work.
