When will Microsoft stop making more Windows

To add some to the other good comments :

Since there will never be a new version of Windows beyond 10, which will be continually improved during its lifespan, any new Operating System Microsoft designs will not be based on the Windows engine or concept. Of course it would be reasonable to assume the new operating system might have a Windows like touch and feel. 

Why would you expect that? I'd expect a new paradigm for a new OS. Otherwise it's just Windows with a new name.

What have all the clever people that designed the whole WIMP paradigm been doing for the last 35 years? Where's the next concept?

Great to see it defined and I am not sure how this could be expressed in layman's terms but it does make a lie of the principle statement in the lifecycle documents. Or am I reading that incorrectly as a single policy?

They even go further than the accepted terms within the industry of N+1 (Apple do not formally admit to any policy) and is defined as a requirement of WAAS.

It does not help the layman because it is labelled as an update and they frequently don't see any difference between a build release and all the other updates.

As we described in the Windows as a service docs at http://aka.ms/waas, we service and support two CBB releases at all times, so the end of servicing for a particular release is dependent on the timing of the N+2 release. It will be at least 18 months, but can be longer when releases are more than six months apart.

Because there are two newer CBB releases, Windows 10 1507 [AKA Win10 RTW] will not be serviced much longer – as I mentioned in a previous reply, the 60-day countdown (the grace period described in the Windows as a service docs) will start in January, meaning the last updates for Windows 10 1507 will be in March. For Windows 10 1511, the end of servicing will be about six months after the CBB declaration for the next Windows 10 feature update (the Creators Update, due out early next year). Per the above, the 60-day countdown for Win10 RTW begins in January 2017.

The last statement is quite clear, only Build 1607 is supported, no other previous build is supported as of the release of 1607.

I can assure you that Win10 RTM & Win10 Version 1511 are still supported, O Great Hairy One.

I do not doubt that in reality but what else does "A device needs to install the latest update to remain supported" mean?

As I read it then the converse is if you do not have the latest update applied Microsoft would not provide support. Of course if one of the large clients had an issue and had not moved up to 1607 Microsoft are not going to tell them where to get off. However the interest in us mere mortals is not going to be significant.

Both Windows 7 and Vista had statements that the lifecycle only applied if you have the latest service pack installed, the converse then has to be true that the RTM release was no longer supported. OK Microsoft have changed terminologies with 8/10 and Service Packs in older version do not truly equate to new builds with 10 but "last version of Windows" does not really fit with a specific lifecycle

Of course they could call the next release something completely different. Then the "last version of Windows" would be entirely correct if the next operating system was called Microsoft Doors or some other architectural feature.

What does "last longer" mean? What is "version 1507?"
