Sir, I heard lumia 640 xl LTE, will support volte, in your site telling it must be activated from service provider,

In India reliance jio , is telling lumia 640xl LTE, has some OS problem, so it must be activated from Microsoft side,

As you are a Microsoft big windows OS , you must show interest in your product lumia 640 xl LTE to activate volte, and talk to reliance jio Telecom company To promote lumia 640xl mobile to get 3 months preview offers,

You can not seat quite, around 16 mobile company tied up with reliance jio, you must show interest, not reliance will show,

As we feel Microsoft company is wast ,

    And who is the author ? Just another user like you and me.

    Firmware updates can be developed and provided by the OEM only upon request and with agreement from the carrier. So it is 100% up to the carrier to request this and provide the necessary technical information to be included in the carrier-specific firmware created and then distributed by the OEM.

    To be honest, I do not believe that such firmware will be developed for Jio, since there is no way for Microsoft to define which handsets should get it and which not. I for example do not need or want a Jio specific firmware on my Lumia 1520 and would be extremely angry with Microsoft if they pushed it out to all handsets globally. I'm pretty sure many other users will be quite upset as well. That's why an app is required to activate it when necessary.

    To sum up, VoLTE needs to be first activated (ALLOWED) by Phone manufacturer followed by Carrier.  Unless Microsoft 'allows' to toggle VoLTE, Carrier CANNOT do anything despite of their willingness in doing so.

    Taking T-Mobile in the Czech republic as an example, do you think Microsoft approached them to offer VoLTE support or did it actually happen the other way around ? And how do you explain VoLTE becoming active just by installing the carrier's app without any involvement from Phone manufacturer?

    @ 93tid : I had requested call back for my Lumia 1520 & to my astonishment I received a call back in 2 minutes.  They have confirmed that only Firmware update will enable VoLTE and they are planning to release update very soon.  If you still believe that it’s upto carrier, please give me something to pressurize the Carrier.  I will prefer to have native VoLTE feature over using third party App i.e. Jio4GVoice in this case.

    On the other hand Jio has confirmed that it’s ONLY upto Microsoft to allow toggle VoLTE or not.

    I am not highly acquainted with this but am trying to push at both places i.e. Lumia & Jio.

    @ garym123 : I have been talking with numerous persons on this issue.  I can confirm that to Trigger VoLTE is entirely up to Phone manufacturer only.  Carrier support is the second part which can be done only if Phone manufacturer allows.  I tried my hands on Nexus 6P & found that there is Switch to toggle to activate VoLTE but is not activated by the manufacturer (Google).  You can confirm this by 'Googling' or 'Binging' for the yelling which people are doing for activating VoLTE on Nexus 6P.

    I also tried my hands on Lumia 1520 by changing VoLTE support SIM.  I was able to see IMS setting and when I tried to click there, I got message that it’s not allowed.  In the same phone with another Carrier SIM, I am not able to see this setting.

    To sum up, VoLTE needs to be first activated (ALLOWED) by Phone manufacturer followed by Carrier.  Unless Microsoft 'allows' to toggle VoLTE, Carrier CANNOT do anything despite of their willingness in doing so.
