Hey all,

we have started rolling out a new firmware update for Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL: 01078.00038.16025.390xx. Key improvements in this release include:

  • Stability fixes.
  • Improvements for GPS reliability.
  • Improvements for call audio quality.

The availability of this update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. At the time of writing this post, the update is available mainly for selected open market variants, but the rollouts should continue gradually during the coming days and weeks.

Windows 10 is updating continuously, so make sure you follow all the update notifications that appear on your phone. To check for updates, you can also tap Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates. For detailed update instructions, see.

If you are a Windows Insider user, see. Note: this does not affect general firmware availability.

    FYI

The .71 update rolled out automatically on my phone either Saturday or Sunday as a Fast Track insider in the US.  The phone suddenly rebooted which confirmed the update.  My phone is the unlocked Lumia 950XL dual sim on AT&T network.  I do not see many feature changes, but am certain there are some. Hopefully for me, a phone that starts behaving like a 4g LTE not a 2g phone with slow speed cell downloads.  This would be my first issue for AT&T or/and Microsoft to fix.

As for when the update will be released, according to the post on Windows Central, Microsoft will rolling out in a country by country basis. That may explain the delay.  I am not certain what country regulation that would prohibit an all at once roll out world wide.

Exactly as LCRT stated above - unfortunately there is no way to "speed up" the firmware update availability by "unlocking the phone" or changing the SIM-card.

Need clarification please. Are you saying the Firmware update for my Unlocked Dual Sim 950 is dependent on AT&Tls interaction as LCRT post suggests in this statement "No. unlocking the device to other networks does not change the fact that the FIRMWARE is branded by AT&T, and it is an AT&T product. unlocking achieves nothing." or is the Firmware Update dependent on Microsoft's rollout schedule and nothing else?

what clarification do you need? if the original firmware is made by at&t, then it is an at&t product and any firmware update is up to them.

Is the roll out still in motion? Besides the first batch of users it looks like nobody else has gotten the FW yet in the past 5 days. Especially in France were unlocked 950/950 XL are not seeing anything so far.
