New firmware update for Lumia 950/950 XL: 01078.00038.16025.390xx

Hey all,

we have started rolling out a new firmware update for Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL: 01078.00038.16025.390xx. Key improvements in this release include:

  • Stability fixes.
  • Improvements for GPS reliability.
  • Improvements for call audio quality.

The availability of this update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. At the time of writing this post, the update is available mainly for selected open market variants, but the rollouts should continue gradually during the coming days and weeks.  

Windows 10 is updating continuously, so make sure you follow all the update notifications that appear on your phone. To check for updates, you can also tap Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates. For detailed update instructions, see.

    As for issues with the phone, the platform is becoming progressively more stable.  I suspect what confuses things for Microsoft is that the OS despite being built on the same core behaves differently on ARM versus the other deployments.

    Flac audio file playback, just one example, does not work correctly on ARM, but works perfectly everywhere else.  I can imagine the engineers struggling with these sorts of head scratcher problems since it should just work given it's the same code.

    Microsoft tends to get it right on rev 3, and Windows Mobile is effectively a rev 3 iteration.  I'm liking my phone more and more.  Continuum is very handy indeed, without an equal on other mobile platforms.  The capabilities under the hood are amazing, we are only just now starting to see software that is leveraging what's there.

    My sense is that everything will be quite stable by the time summer rolls around.  Battery life, business utility, customization, skype integration, office integration, text/SMS handling while driving, day to day usability on the Lumia 950 are all better than my iPhone 6.  For a business person, this is the phone to have.

    Once the second SIM goes into the 950 when I get back to Europe, the iPhone 6 goes.  I'm quite surprised that this doesn't get more attention, dual SIM support on iPhone is only possible with 3rd party hacks.  The dual SIM feature is so nicely integrated in the 950!

    When I try to change my forward-settings via Settings > Extra > Networksettings  > SIM the windows always closes after a few seconds without loading the page completely.

    Mhm. Not a general issue because it works here with my Lumia 950 on Vodafone Germany. Therefore, please, create a new thread and there post your model type, network operator, and in which country you are right now. Then in that other thread, the output of the app Field Medic might show why that app crashes.

    VVM might be working now because it asked for a me for a VVM log-in password.

    This is just an update:

    I have been in the Fast Lane and Production Lane for sometime.  My phone is 950XL dual sim, unlocked on AT&T network. My phone is RM-116-15357, 0000-US, but no update.  However, I did received another OS Build update, the second update in less than a week.

    My phone is now on Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10.0.14267.1004.

    Firmware: 1078.00027.15506.02005.

    Hopefully 1078.38.16025.39005, the correct one for my particular phone, rolls out sometime this week.

    On a another note, VVM might be working now because it asked for a me for a VVM log-in password.  So it appears the VVM feature is tied to the OS build not the firmware.

    up to now, I found a new bug. When I try to change my forward-settings via Settings > Extra > Networksettings  > SIM the windows always closes after a few seconds without loading the page completely :-(

    did notice it seemed a bit better on calls when I have used my phone today, does anyone know what bugs have been fixed with this firmware
