Many users of Windows Live Mail 2012 have received an email under this heading from the Outlook Team advising them of the changes that are taking place at Outlook.com as accounts are migrated to the same platform as that used by Office 365. Apart from advice to switch to using the built-in Mail apps on Windows 8.1 and 10, users are instructed to apply the patch KB3093594 . A few points to note: The change means that migrated accounts can no longer be synchronized using the old DeltaSync protocol. To synchronize these accounts, users can set up the account again to use IMAP . This will enable mail messages and folders to synchronize, but not the calendar and contacts. The patch enables support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to be used instead of DeltaSync in Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (see System requirements on the download page). Mail synchronization errors can often be cleared by removing the account, closing down the program and waiting a few minutes, then re-launching it and adding the account back again. We don't know what is going to happen with Windows Live Mail 2009 on XP and 2011 on Vista. It is clear that users will no longer be able to sign in with a migrated account to synchronize contacts and calendar, and they won't be able to synchronize mail messages and folders using DeltaSync. Whether the programs will continue to work in other respects (e.g. as a POP3, IMAP and NNTP client) remains to be seen. Apart from this question of synchronizing mail, calendars and contacts with a Microsoft Email account, there is no change now or in the foreseeable future for Windows Live Mail 2012. Mail accounts configured to use POP3 or IMAP will continue to work as before, the default calendar and contacts lists will still be available and the other functions - RSS feeds and newsgroups - continue as before. Because of the many problems that update KB3093594 caused for some users, it has been re-released, now at version 5.0 dated 23 December 2015. The revised KB includes this text under More information : Known issues about this update<ul> <li>Issue 1: After you install this update (that was released before December 17, 2015), you may find that the program crashes soon after start. Solution: Microsoft has identified the cause and has released a fix that addresses the issue for affected users on applicable platforms. To fix this issue, install this update that's released on December 17, 2015. </li><li>Issue 2: After you install this update that's released on December 17, 2015, you may experience mail sync issues. </li></ul> Update 1 February 2016 <ul> <li>Issue 3: Some customers have reported other issues with the release on December 17, 2015. I have the same version. If I'm reading properties correctly, I deleted and re-installed it on Dec 23, 2015. I haven't seen any issues since. I use Outlook Calendar vs. Hotmail and have seen a sluggishness in syncing ....cant remember if it was when I added an event via WLM calendar or via Outlook calendar..... eventually they do sync.

I just fixed WLM. Don't know how long it will last: On about 3/3/2016, I suddenly experienced WLM repeatedly crashing when trying to update a calendar change I had made. Every time I would restart it, it would crash in about fifteen seconds as it tried to communicate with he calendar servers. This allowed me the time to log out of my Hotmail account on WLM (this is only for the calendar and contacts) and once logged out, WLM worked fine for email but not the calendar or contacts. I had downloaded and installed the patch back in December. The only trouble I was having up until this point was the issue with all of my sent email showing the sender's name where the recipient should be that everyone else is having. I wiped WLM from my system just now an re-installed it. I now am back to 16.4.3528.0331 and everything works.... and I mean everything. Sent items now appear correctly in that folder. When you said you backed up emails...were you able to backup emails resting in your inbox, sent items, saved folders? How do you do that? Sorry, I used the wrong term, I "Exported" the emails. Easy to do with WLM. Under the top left drop down you will see "Export Messages". With that you can chose all folders or just the ones you want. Because I was going to re-install WLM, I used the Microsoft Windows Live Mail format but you could use "Microsoft Exchange" format if using another program. Anyhow, easy to follow the directions from there. Hope that helps,

Sorry, I used the wrong term, I "Exported" the emails. Easy to do with WLM. Under the top left drop down you will see "Export Messages". With that you can chose all folders or just the ones you want.
