So, in research for a BHO remover for another poster here, I downloaded & ran Malwarebyte's JRT - just to see what it might offer. I thought I'd trust them. I do gratefully use their Anti-virus scanner on demand to supplement Defender, after all. And I've sworn to pay up should it ever catch a thing Defender missed.

To my shock, JRT found stuff & just went ahead & deleted them - w/o asking permission! Either it - or Windows - did make a restore point, however. Who can analyze this report & help decide whether I should revert? My own rerearch...

(1) PCDoctor appears to be part of Dell. But it won't be long before I attack lots of Dell stuff in here.

(2) That searchscopes entry was part of McAfee (I think), called Secure Search...

...but I've uninstalled McAfee. Now, Secure Search is gone, & BING is the default. (Honestly, I'm not sure it was actually still working.)

(3) The folder "pc drivers headquarters" was part of Driver Detective, which I did once try when still Win 8.1. It said it wanted to replace two - but I never pursued that.

I think I've talked myself into keeping the deletions - but does anyone disagree? Here's the report...

    Assuming Windows 10 64-bit... Correct

    Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting this post:

    1a. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer? Jan 2016

    1b. Did the computer come with Windows 10 preinstalled or was it a Windows 8.1 computer that came with a free upgrade to Windows 10? preinstalled

    1. What is the full name of your currently-installed third-party anti-virus application or security suite (i.e., not Windows Defender!), if any, and when (approx. date) does your current subscription(if any)expire?  ESET NOD32, expires this year, but not for a while.
    2. What third-party anti-malware applications (i.e., not Windows Defender!) are installed, if any?  What third-party firewall, if any? Malwarebytes, Spywareblaster
    3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?

    It came with it, but I never used it, or installed it.  I uninstalled it as soon as I got the computer.

    1. The Dell computer came with a McAfee free-trial preinstalled. Have you ever run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool? I don't remember if I used their removal tool, or not. 
    2. Is KB3135173 or KB3135174 [PICK ONE] listed in Installed Updates (not Update History)? [1] 3135173
    3. Is Adobe Flash Player v20.0.0.306 installed?  Yes
    4. Is Firefox (version 44.0.2 or higher) and/or Google Chrome (version 48.0.2564.116 or higher) or any other alternate browser installed? Yes
    5. Are you in the habit of using "registry cleaners" (e.g., CCleaner's Registry Cleaner component; Comodo System Cleaner; Advanced SystemCare; Advanced System Optimizer; Glary Utilities; McAfee QuickClean; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; Norton PC Tuneup; PCTools Optimiser; PC Doctor; Registry Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro;  Registry Booster; SpeedUpMyPC; System Mechanic; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Wise Care 365; Wise Cleaner)? No.  I use CCleaner, but never for a registry cleaner.   I do use a registry backup program from tweaking.com though.

    That is a scary wireless mouse story, lucky I don't have one.

    I discovered in another thread that not all Dell computers of the same name are equipped the same. For instance, my Inspiron 3542 is an i5 with a touchscreen. There is another that is an i3 & without a touchscreen. It must be the same with OS versions. Mine came with Win 8.1, but I'll bet they are Win 10 now.

    What is your Dell model number, i.e., what shows up at "START, All Apps, Contact Support"...?...

    Does your site detect it is Win 10 & offer Win 10 drivers? I'm not forgetting PA Bear has been saying "if ain't broke, don't fix it" for about 100 years. But I've updated all my drivers w/o incident. Still, a degree of caution is warranted. The Dell Drivers & Downloads isn't quite perfect. Suddenly, it is offering only the Wireless 1704 driver to me, when it used to offer both that & the one I actually use, the 1705. It did similar for a while with my Intel HD Graphics driver.

    Update 2/28/16: OK, the 1705 is back. And I'm pleased to see it's the same version I've already got. And my Intel Graphics driver is still there. I'm fully up-to-date!

    I am using a Win10 desktop.  It must have originally been a Win8/8.1.  Dell is messed up.  Online it tells me I can upgrade to Win10.  It CAME WITH WIN10.

    What wireless mouse story? OK, looks like we both survived JRT. Support Assist must have its own defense mechanism. Right, that's where they are, & JRT had only deleted two of mine too. I think we're OK with that now. I'll never run JRT again, either.

    So, which Dell have you got? Are you Win 10 build 10240, or Win 10 version 1511? I am the former & continue to await the latter to arrive through Windows update.
