Disabling Windows Compatability Telemetry

My computer is choking up with this application, with literally thousands of copies running at the same time. This is causing nearly 100% disk usage on my computer, which is causing it to have yet other problems.

Perhaps a virus is attacking through this app?

There also appears to be more than a thousand software distribution downloads through that many network services.  I am using windows 2012 server.

There's no way to tell if you have a virus from just a description, but having many copies is strange. On my computer and other reports I've seen, it's just one process.

Microsoft has tasks that run periodically and stuff from the disk.  It is all well and fine on a new computer.  However, for those of us that have a big disk and lots of programs installed it is a real problem.  This is amature hour at Microsoft.  Basically, they are turning our computers into useless junk through their negligence.

Yes, there is. You might find this SuperUser question helpful: http://superuser.com/q/69783. But it could be as simple as using task scheduler to run the following command every minute or so as admin:

taskkill /F /IM CompatTelRunner.exe

I'm not sure if that is the right process name though.

Windows Compatibility Telemetry seems to have reached new levels of malice. It now appears not just to be scheduled (like when you boot up), but appears to start whenever you installed/updated new software.

At this point, I wonder whether there's watchdog software out there which can simply kill the process as soon as it starts running. Does anyone know of such a tool? Because clearly MS isn't about to CEASE AND DESIST their disk-trashing operations on their own.
