Location is greyed out, i cannot remove internet explorer 11 addon after virus removal

Those properties don't look like the ones I posted for my Event Viewer shortcut. I was going to say you had a shortcut to the wrong program (Eventvwr.mscinstead of Eventvwr**.** exe) when suddenly I found one like that in my own computer. I can only find it searching from "C:\Windows" - where you find it searching from "This PC". I don't understand why. Then I saw a difference between our shortcuts that both point to Eventvwr.msc. They have a different modified date & size.

...But it turns out that's OK too in/of itself. I created a new one from the file (Eventvwr.msc) that had a different size altogether, & I was able to change its size & modified date (time, anyway) by changing items in its properties, like adding a parameter to the Target...

So, I can't say your shortcut is bad for having any of those differences. For some reason SFC doesn't like yours, though. (I don't expect it would complain about my new one on the Desktop.) I'm thinking - someone/something appears to have modified an original system shortcut in your computer - as yours has a created date of 7/10/15 (which is the same as Eventvwr.msc, itself, & many system files). I think that is the problem. A new one should have been created & modified, instead. I think SFC wants the original to be unchanged. The folder it is in - C:\Windows\WinSxS - is significant too. Everything in there should be left to Windows to deal with. That's an important system folder.

So, the solution is not to delete these bad ones - but to somehow get them back to what they were. Why couldn't SFC or DISM do that?

It turns out we have more HDD space than we thought. Some folders are not as big as they look in Explorer. A hard link allows a file to seem to be in two places at once. The file system records it to exist in two folders - but it really is on the HDD media only once. So, my folder, WinSxS, looks like it's taking up 6.5 GB in Explorer, but really it is only using 6.34 GB of HDD space. The difference (.16 GB) is accounted for by hard links among files in its subfolders. In addition, 5.32 GB of WinSxS is hard linked to files somewhere outside of WinSxS - meaning you can subtract that much more from what is reported to exist on the HDD. (I think that's it, now. Best go read it yourself, though.)

And it looks like the whole business cleans itself up. I never reclaimed any packages, so it must have done it itself. So, I'm learning stuff here. I'd say my stay here is 50% selfish. But you are welcome to the other 50!

That's interesting. As far as Cortana, then, you are right - location is stuck ON. I'd say we don't have much to worry over regarding location, then. We can let that alone. You really have the best of both worlds - full Cortana functionality, yet no other program can snoop on you. If a particular site you go to wants your location, you can just supply it yourself.

So, I'll continue to look to fix your SFC & DISM. It's a sin - those are supposed to fix us - but we must fix them! It's a sore disappointment.

I'm just curious bout this... everytime this happens, though not always my computer slows.... I just opened 2 IE tabs, a YM, and a movie...

I guess they are legit shortcuts - if...

(1) They all have the same target as mine ("%windir%\system32\eventvwr.exe"), &

(2) They all are 1015 bytes.

But then, why does SFC flag them? I'd like you to have clean SFC & DISM reports. I'll see what I can find about that other stuff in CBS.log, that came up when you searched for "missing". Maybe that's making the shortcuts seem to be bad when they really are not. But, then, why isn't every shortcut you've got getting flagged?

The problem with seeking a solution is that everything written on these problems is for Win 8.1 & under. But hopefully solutions found will be the same. But I'm not finding a solution yet for the DISM mess except to do a reset.

No - some have a target of "%windir%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s" & are 1168 bytes.

I guess I'm in over my head with this problem. This one just doesn't appear when I do an Explorer search for "Event Viewer.Lnk" from "C:" or from "This PC" (though it does for MariaChunle). It only shows up for me when I search from "C:\Windows". I'll tell her shortly I must bow out. (It'll be several years before I can understand this thing.)
