My issue started on the restart that was required after having installed McAfee... I haven't used them for years, always used Kaspersky or Panda over the past 10-15 years, but Panda wouldn't install on win10, and Kaspersky and myself had a falling out.
My issue; 90% of the time only happens on startup. The other 10% of the time (Bear in mind this has only started within the past 2 months) happens randomly while loading OR playing games developed with UNREAL engine. These games are sort of load intensive,
meaning as long as you are moving something is loading.
UNREAL coded games are not new to me at all McAfee is.
Other than the installation of McAfee, there have been windows updates that forced themselves on my computers.. I keep updates off. Defender off. Notifications off. in fact I turn off everything I feel to be useless to me. If the PC goes south then I turn
the most recent item back on to solve the problem.
That being said, I haven't looked into or removed the 2 most recent updates. They took forever to install and I assume they will just force install again since they did the first time. I had not thought of grabbing other programs to see if the Win10 Defender
and Notices would stay turned off. Might try this. Might just uninstall the whole bloody mess of McAfee and the 2, well actually now it would be 3, more recent updates. I forgot about the one that decided to install on 2 of my desktops about 4AM 9/17..
The post mentioning that unless a switch is greyed out the sys app or setting is not really OFF; just laying in wait to attack opens up many possibilities.
Frankly, I have to agree that it is a MS issue that is triggered indirectly by some random assorted software programs we as users are silly enough to think MS will permit. Paranoid?? Me? NEVER!!!
If anyone has any other advice that has not been mentioned over the past 30 pages here, then by all means let me have it with both barrels. Sadly, I had already done most everything listed here as a fix, and more. I am about to restart to see if my most
recent changes still give me the 5-15 min startup wait like always. To solve mine, when I am impatient I just end the process of the System groups having 17 and 11 processes in them and my PC drops to 5% disk usage by a 20 count. I assume that an uninstall
of McAfee would proffer me the same result, tho on a more permanent level.
Good Day All.. Like someone else said. I can't believe I just now fell upon this thread after 2 months plus tryin to deal.
At least it's good not to be alone lol..
