Windows Update issue - Definition Update reoffered

This issue cropped up immediately after Windows Update installed two definition updates for Windows Defender consecutively. Windows Update started offering definition 1.193.3002.0 after the definition updates were installed, which was unexpected as a later version was installed through the updates. After installing 1.193.3002.0, Windows Update offered update 1.193.3192.0, and started offering 1.193.3002.0 immediately after installing 1.193.3192.0. I do have a recent system image backup (stored in another partition). I have tried manually resetting Windows Update (using the instructions I found on Microsoft Support) to no avail. I have restarted my computer multiple times. Both sfc and DISM found no problems with my computer. I downloaded and installed MBAM (free version) and ran a scan with it, which did not turn anything up.  Should I just restore my computer from my system image backup?

the Windows Defender UI indicated that update 1.193.3192.0 is installed. However, Windows Update is still offering (and automatically installing and looping) update 1.193.3002.0

I am running Windows 8.1 64bit with all updates (except for the pesky definition updates thingy) installed. I had a McAfee trial thingy installed quite some time ago, but I uninstalled it and ran MCPR (from the McAfee site) afterwards. I haven't made any changes to my computer in the past couple of weeks.

Turning Windows Defender off, restarting, and turning it back on did not resolve the problem. Dangit.

    Is Defs v1.193.3437.0 or higher installed now?

    Have you ever run the Norton Removal Tool or the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool since you purchased the computer? ...since you restored the image a day or two ago?

    Did you know that Defender will NOT auto-update its Definitions unless Automatic Updates is enabled & set to the default Automatic configuration?

    Why are so many ppl running Windows 8.1 experiencing problems with [Defender updates?] 

    Norton and McAfee applications are notorious for not uninstalling (or upgrading) cleanly. The "leftovers" are the Prime Suspect in such situations.

    Why are clean installs of Windows 8.1 experiencing the same problem?

    Probably because the Norton or McAfee free-trialware has been installed again. 

    ...are you running Windows 8.1? If so, are you experiencing issues with update 1.193.3002.0?

    Fixed here too - thanks to all who posted - especially Windozers!  Looks like maybe we helped get something done by MS.

    Confirmed here too.

    I did not hide the offending 1.193.3002.0 update and simply did the "check for update" this morning and a new update arrived for 1.193.3449.0 so I installed that.

    Then I did the "check for update" again and nothing appeared!

    Yay, it appears Microsoft has fixed their problem.

    I got the same offer of the 2nd install of 10041 and I just accepted it and it went away.  My defender updates and other updates are coming thru.  I did this almost immediately and I was early to install 10041.

    Perhaps I was lucky on my HP Notebook.
