WINDOWS 10 Pro error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

I am getting the error "

"WINDOWS 10 error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." for every application that i try to launch.

I can't Install Quick Time App

Please help

This error may happen due to system file corruption or Visual C++ redistributable package corruption. I suggest you to follow the below given methods:

Method 1:

Kindly download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Packagefrom below given link and check if it helps:

Method 2:

I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow the below given steps:

  • Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
  • In Command prompt type sfc/scannow and press enter.
  • Restart the computer.

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps: 

  • Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  • In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

                DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

  • Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

The problem was corrupted Google Chrome, my default browser.  I deleted the program and installed a new one.  It works now.

    I was going  to delete apps/programs 1 at a time hoping to bring the computer down to only windows.  I took Chrome off on the suggestion of another, attempted to reinstall Chrome - it will not install either - I get the "side-by-side" error. 

    My laptop is now holding me hostage and is basically useless until I can get the issue resolved.

    I'm having the same issue. I can't open several of my programs, I can't install any of those c++ things because they won't open and I can't reset my computer because it says there's an error. When I tried resetting my computer, I chose the option to keep my personal files instead of having the whole system wiped.

              When I try to open an application (Steam for example, but there are many more), I get the error message: The application has failed to start because its side-by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

              So I look at the event line and it says "Activation context generation failed for "System Default Context".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.gdiplus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.1.15063.608_none_9e9d5d4256d15def.manifest" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax."

              I did that sxstrace thing but I don't understand any of it so that doesn't really help me.

              I also did the sfc/scannow and I got the same thing as IsabellaLagoy-Stowell but my version is 10.0.15063.

    I have been getting the same side by side configuration message when I attempt to open anything on my computer. It has been tough to find new information - everything was pointing to windows 7 - 8 - 8.1.  I also attempted the scannow - only I am told this commend "is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.  I have attempted to reload windows - the computer will not let me - there is an error, I have attempted to reload a C++Vision program - my computer will not run this program.  I am about ready to toss the laptop out the window and go buy a MAC....there has to be something I can do
