KB3038314 Fails to Install get the error 80092004.

KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Ignore it for a few days and somehow it has installed itself successfully without me noticing ... none the wiser I shall take my leave of this post. Good luck to all still waiting, many thanks to all who helped, see you next Patch Tuesday ;-) Rollup, rollup!

Curious...when installing IE 11, did you skip IE 9 and 10? Because that is how I did it. And still WU says no new updates available, and no errors.

Yes, I went from IE8 directly to IE11:

    1. Win7 Ultimate x64 with SP1
    2. All updates except IE11
    3. IE11

Took some time, maybe 20 minutes, then KB3038314 popped up again as available.

(But it's definitely installed - as stated by other users, IE11 shows it as installed)

So... there must be some difference between your installation and mine.

Was your Win7 DVD with or without SP1 ?

(I'm asking because I noticed some strange differences between my two machines. I've built them from identical parts from the same shipping. Everything is identical, except the first machine was installed with Win7 Ult x64 without SP1, but installed SP1 manually right after setup was completed. On the 2nd machine I installed Win7 Ult x64 with SP1. Several setting were different, including energy settings and some others.)

Maybe this is the difference and the reason your workaround works for you but not for me?

    I installed via DVD Win7 Pro x64 with SP1

Your steps do work as advertised.  However, users are still victim to being unable to manage the IE add-ons like Search Engines.

I can easily convince clients to use Chrome instead, but take solace knowing all Windows Updates are applied without further error.
