KB3038314 Fails to Install get the error 80092004.

KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

IE11 shows update version to be 11.0.18 kb3038314 and the control panel shows kb3038314 as being installed, yet windows update keeps offering it and of course failing.  If it were installed already of course it would fail.  I think that there is an error in the windows update logic that keeps offering an already installed update.

    I have this issue too.

The above suggestion of re-installing IE11 didn't help, even with following the steps suggested.

Tried booting to WinPE and applying the update with DISM offline image servicing and got an error applying unattend.xml for the package or something to that effect.

I'm not sure of the exact wording as I didn't write it down.

Same situation here (Windows Seven Ultimate 64 bit). I've the KB3038314 update listed in my Windows Update chronology, in which you can read it's a cumulative security update for Internet Explorer 10, but not in my installed updates. That's very very strange! I've another problem too: http://www.infoworld.com/article/2911704/microsoft-windows/ie-11-patch-kb-3038314-blocks-adding-search-providers-install-may-fail-with-error-80092004.html.

So I think that KB3038314 update is really working, but it doesn't appear in installed updates. This would explain the behavior of Windows Update.

Having this same problem with the ordinary Windows Update method on a fresh reinstall of Windows 7.

However, when I download the update manually and run it, it reports that the update is not applicable to this machine!

Would be nice to have some clarification.
