Windows update KB3004394  causes the following issues on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate system:

All MMC functions (Event Viewer, etc.) now require Administrator action, although in an Administrator account.

Windows Defender service will not start

The Windows Defender Service Terminated with the following error

%%-2147023113

Removing it  returns the system to normal.

Anyone else experience this?

I had this exact error with a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

System was locking up and I noticed that Defender would not start.

I tried to install Microsoft Security Essentials and it failed to install.

Uninstalled the MS KB3004394 and everything is working again.

Microsoft should remove this update and do some more testing.

Fortunately for me, the Update to update the Update To End All Updating did UPDATE and UNupdate as stated.

More giggles in that there is no listing of the update that killed the bad update.

    James Bond approved.

I just got an update alert that says basically that 'Microsoft installed a KB file that won't allow future updates, and this is an update to that which removes it'.

I giggled. The entire notion was seemingly paradoxical.

Thanks for the humor today. I'll get on it.

    I got this today:

Install this update to resolve issues in Windows.

The KB 3004394 update that was dated December 10, 2014 can cause additional problems on computers that are running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This includes the inability to install future updates. This new update is available to remove KB 3004394 from your computer.
