Windows update KB3004394  causes the following issues on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate system:

All MMC functions (Event Viewer, etc.) now require Administrator action, although in an Administrator account.

Windows Defender service will not start

The Windows Defender Service Terminated with the following error

%%-2147023113

Removing it  returns the system to normal.

Anyone else experience this?

Re: New update KB3024777 fix (after Check for updates about 1 hr ago) - - Since I am administrator on home PC & don't use Defender, I have not seen problem mentioned in other thread.

However, I just installed it  & so far it has corrected my onscreen key board issue (re: osk.exe error - "a referral was returned from the server),  as well as a 2nd problem trying to access any admin tools (same error message) after trying unsuccessfully to delete KB30004394 from the 12/10 set of updates.

[This had been frustrating as I was not able to access the last restore point earlier due to the inability to execute key Win 32 files from windows/system32/ ...]

I hope MS releases an update to replace the failing KB 3004394, one that includes the good fixes without the bad one that affected Windows Defender. It would be nice if MS put the word out  about the status of this during the next update ready to be applied.

KB3004394 wasn't released for Vista.  I think you just have a coincidence in issues of patching.
