Metadata staging failed event 131

Im having exactly the same issue on my PC with the metadata staging failed device manager errors and this was a clean installation. Other issues I was having also were Schannel Event ID 36888 TLS Protocol Errors repeated on a daily basis. I did several reinstalls but it made no difference. As soon as I went on the internet these errors appeared in batches of three...usually between 6 and 12 of them every day!!

Thankfully now though the Schannel errors have now stopped.

I don't know what is going on at Microsoft nowadays but with Windows 8/8.1 there is constantly problems in Event Viewer.

At one time I always downloaded all Windows Updates with extremely rarely any problems but Im scared to install the Optional Updates now.

I too like you know that this error commences between 9am and 10am on 6th May 2015.  I was working on my system and I was actually checking the events logs every 15 minutes due to work I was doing, I am therefore precise as to when it went wrong.

I started by calling Microsoft and found myself talking to level 1 techs who wanted money to get me to level 2 support.  I explained to them that I did not want level 2 support as I did not require support with my system.  They seem to think you want someone to take control of your pc and fix it!  I had problems getting them to understanding that it was a Microsoft issue not my PC.

However I spent some time on google and found an email address and telephone number for Head Office and expressed my concern and details of the situation at length.

Two days later I received a call from a Level 3 Support engineer who understood the issue but admitted getting to the root cause would not be easy:

He took screen shots of the event viewer.

He made a recording of my system booting up and me refreshing the hardware and devices page to see the system product the event ID 131 metadata staging failed.

He stated this was a major concern for Microsoft and we would keep me updated.

I received a further update 3 days later to say that Microsoft had launched a full internal investigation into getting to the root cause of this error.

All went quiet for a week, I received an update yesterday confirming that Microsoft are still working on this issue which the Engineer described as a 'major concern'.  Once again he promised to keep me updated.

I hope this will reassure you that Microsoft are aware of this and are working on this and I aim to see it to completion.

When I receive any updates, I will post back.
