My Win 7 64bit laptop recently installed update KB2952664, which sent everything to a grinding halt. Through a combination of research and spending a whole weekend uninstalling different updates I pinned down the problem to this update.
I can uninstall the update, which brings the laptop back to life, but it immediately shows up again in the installed updates panel. If I restart the laptop after uninstalling the update the problem immediately returns.
Why is the update magically reappearing and how do I remove it for good?

well, maybe. What I have found out is that there are at least 9 variations of that exact # update, and unless you keep deleting every one that seems to pop back up, it will not go away. 9 with the same primary kb#, but somewhere in the (suffix?, prefix?, date of release?) the variant # will appear - eventually. I eventually got it to disappear on and old DELL Win7 by clicking and uninstalling that kb# about 8 - 10 times....
I found although KB 2952664 is still listed in the update history, if you do a search, it's actually not there.
Hey, you didn't sound stupid at all! Forcing unsuspecting Windows users to jump through hoops in order to keep their Windows in working order, that's what I call stupid.
success!!! I guess there were just many versions. I just kept doing the uninstall 'thang', now it does not show on the installed list! Apparent success.... sorry all. Thanks... woo-hoo...
I don't know how to NOT sound stupid, but, please walk me thru this keystroke by keystroke - like when to use a space or when do I hit "enter". I have uninstalled all the other suggested (win10) "updates" the usual way from the Uninstall screen. I have always been set to 'choose' what & when to download & install. All is well with one computer. On the other one I can not seem to get rid of kb2952664, and it seems to be trying to download "Win10" every time I try to do ANY update (like security essentials definitions or "office"). Even the smallest 45kb definitions update takes an HOUR to download, and then may not install. I have never needed to do "cmd" prompts or commands. I need someone to detail each step ("hold my hand"). I do not know how to separate commands, or prompts, or do I just type all the text as a continues line? The way it's formatted in the post does not indicate if all the lines run together, or do I ever hit the "enter" key? I really am not stupid, & I follow directions explicitly. Activities I have engaged in required perfectly following instructions or you may die or cause the death of others, so I CAN follow instructions to the letter. I have worked around many issues with "2000", "XP", & "7", Android 4.2 - 4.4 "developer options", but I can not seem to enter the commands here properly - sorry. I keep getting "this is not a valid path." If a "private message" link is provided, you may do that, thank you so much! Really, I am not that helpless! I am the person that people ask; "do you want/need me to draw you a picture!?" - sorry, please be kind....
