Unable to uninstall update KB2952664

My Win 7 64bit laptop recently installed update KB2952664, which sent everything to a grinding halt. Through a combination of research and spending a whole weekend uninstalling different updates I pinned down the problem to this update.

I can uninstall the update, which brings the laptop back to life, but it immediately shows up again in the installed updates panel. If I restart the laptop after uninstalling the update the problem immediately returns.

Why is the update magically reappearing and how do I remove it for good?

    Thank you for the help.

    I finally rid all of my windows 7 computers of all of the "help with updating to Widows 10" updates (including and especially KB2952664 which I had been unable to remove as it seemed to re-install at every boot.

    WOW! my computers run as if they were new.  I had forgotten how good windows 7 really is.  No more problems with IE11, no more network problems....... no more problems at all......... and so fast!

    Those with SSD drives boot almost instantly again as the did when 7 was first installed.

    So "help with updating to windows 10" means making windows 7 seem slow and buggy and "outdated"? 

    By design?

    Unfortunately, KB2952664 continues to show up in "installed updates" after removing and rebooting. Most of the replies here have indicated as such and I also had the same issue.  Was able to resolve on three of my laptops by using naTong's solution below.  This may bring up several version of certain updates and you'll have to run one line several times and change the version number at the end.  My son's laptop had 9 versions on his.

    Try the following commands:

    %SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe

    Get-HotFix -id KB2952664,KB2990214,KB3021917,KB3022345,KB3035583,KB2976978,KB3044374

    wusa.exe /norestart /uninstall /kb:2952664

    wusa.exe /norestart /uninstall /kb:2990214

    wusa.exe /norestart /uninstall /kb:3021917

    wusa.exe /norestart /uninstall /kb:3022345

    wusa.exe /norestart /uninstall /kb:3035583

    wusa.exe /norestart /uninstall /kb:2976978 (Windows 8.1)

    wusa.exe /norestart /uninstall /kb:3044374 (Windows 8.1)

    dism /online /get-packages | findstr KB2952664

    dism /online /remove-package /PackageName:Package_for_KB2952664~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.3

    dism /online /get-packages | findstr KB2952664

    Very helpful, with this line I could see all the different KB2952664 versions.  Some machines had 9 of them!

    dism /online /remove-package /PackageName:Package_for_KB2952664~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.3

    This removes version 6.1.1.3 only.  On machines that also have versions 6.1.0.12, 6.1.3.0, 6.1.7.4, 6.1.8.2, etc. etc. this command must be repeated with the appropriate version numbers.

    Run a final  Get-HotFix -id KB2952664  command , and the output should be something like:

    Get-HotFix : This command cannot find hot-fix on the machine 'localhost'. Verify the input and Run your command again.

    At line:1 char:11

    • Get-HotFix <<<<  -id KB2952664

        + CategoryInfo          : ObjectNotFound: (:) [Get-HotFix], ArgumentException

        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : GetHotFixNoEntriesFound,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetHotFixCommand

    Which translates to: "KB2952664 not found";  Success!!!

    Amazing!!

    I couldnt get rid of this pesky update until I found this thread.

    I first ran this:

    dism /online /get-packages | findstr KB2952664

    It returned thirteen different packages/versions which I then deleted one by one. On several of them it said I needed to restart my machine for the changes to take effect. However I chose to delete all of them before I restarted once. And then this update was finally gone.

    Try the following commands...

    Why?  I've never installed KB2952664 so I don't need to uninstall it.  Besides, this is a Windows 7-specific thread so many of the KBs in your Commands wouldn't be installed to begin with.

    I have hid it in the update list, but it seems to be still force installing itself somehow.

    No matter how many times I uninstall it it just immediately reappears in the list.

    So it's almost as if the uninstall process isn't working. It goes through the process of uninstalling (i.e. it says its uninstalling and a green bar moves along to show it's working and then confirms uninstallation) but nothing happens to reinstall it. I just refresh the list of installed updates and it's immediately right back there.

    Any ideas how I can hunt it down in the file system and registry and remove it manually?

    Or is there something else that's causing it to behave like this?
