KB3035583 Installing Windows 10 using Windows Update?

Would you please tell me how to prevent the installation of KB3035583 in my computer and if it is already installed, how to remove it?  Also, are there other updates that we need to be concerned about that enable this behaviour?

KB3035583 now appears as an Important update in Windows Update and is checked which means it will be automatically installed if the user does not uncheck it.  If automatic update is set, it will install without intervention.

There are credible articles that say that Microsoft either has installed or will install changes to my computer that will enable Microsoft to use it as an advertising platform and then install Windows 10 without first obtaining an informed decision to do so.  I truly hope this is not true.

On behalf of my clients and their 162 Windows "consumer" computers, I must tell you that we do not grant Microsoft or any other vendor the right to do this.  When other Windows players do this, we regard it as malware and take great care to remove it.

Microsoft got to where it is today by selling Windows.  We have spent decades learning how to use Windows and billions of dollars buying Windows computers and Windows software.  We own these systems.  They are ours, not Microsoft's.

Windows Update has earned a huge trust.  We trust Microsoft to use Windows Update to keep our computers safe and secure.  When Patch Tuesday comes along we install all the updates that Microsoft says are "important." We assume those to be either plugging a security leak or fixing a software error.

We all hope Windows 10 will be something we will want.  We will carefully review and consult trusted advisors before we install Windows 10.  We have seen Windows 8 and rejected it.  Windows 8 is a bad product we did not choose.  

Automatically installing Windows 10 on our computers would be a severe abuse of a well-earned trust.  Changing our computers to enable them to become advertising platforms is also an abuse.

    So far as I am concerned, KB 3035583 is a breach of trust, pure and simple.  The information provided with the update misrepresents what it is for.  The answers that have been provided about how to "hide" neglect to mention that this hides it only for the current session, and it will be back next time you re-boot.

    This Microsoft shift to deception and trickery has caused this longtime user to change his policy on all three computers.  No more automatic updates.  I'll check manually when I get around to it.  And I will inspect the list for KB 3035583 and any other nagware that comes to my attention.  It will cost me more time and effort, and increase the odds that instead of adopting Windows 10, I will jump to another OS.

    This was a huge blunder with strategic consequences.

    I agree. I have read a lot and if what I've read is true, the entire Win10 OS will be downloaded unto Win7, Win8 & 8.1. This is a forced download and many of us are on limited bandwidth. Some are reporting this download is up to 6GB.

    I have a lot of Window Updates to review to see if they are installed (by Microsoft without my permission) and whether I'll Uninstall them. Biggest mess and time consuming mistake they have made. There are a lot, a lot more Updates to be concerned about in addition to B 3035583 from what I've read.

    I just posted and haven't read the 14 pages, but will take the time now. That I'm not happy with Microsoft would be an understatement!

    Hello joscon @ Microsoft....

    I don't know what Microsoft is doing with Windows Updates on Windows 7, but this is what has been happening.

    Today, I was helping a friend with their Win7/IE11 Home Premium HP Laptop. About 3:15PM EST, I booted it up and immediately Microsoft took over the Laptop.

    The Windows Update setting is not set on Automatic. The setting is "Check for Updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them."

    First message on the screen was "Configuring-Installing 1 of 23 Updates." That took an hour. Then about 4:15PM EST, another message appeared " Applying Update Operation" which went very fast. Some Registry items appeared and when that ended, there were a total of 45, 125 operations completed. The laptop then proceeded to reboot automatically and "starting windows" appeared and very slow in coming out of reboot. Then it rebooted automatically again. Then another message appeared with " Preparing to configure Windows Updates."  Finally, when that was finished, Windows Started Normally.

    Just an aside, something very similar happened to my own Win7 laptop on 10/6/15 and I have now set my Windows Update to Do not check for any Windows Updates.

    I hope someone will have an explanation for this action by Microsoft.

    Perhaps (and I am only saying 'perhaps)  we should consider a class action suit. I certainly didn't sign on for forced advertising or concealed telemetry when I purchased this machine. I feel MS has crossed a line with their customers wirh their deceptive and covert actions. (I have posted this on another reply)
