KB3035583 Installing Windows 10 using Windows Update?

Would you please tell me how to prevent the installation of KB3035583 in my computer and if it is already installed, how to remove it?  Also, are there other updates that we need to be concerned about that enable this behaviour?

KB3035583 now appears as an Important update in Windows Update and is checked which means it will be automatically installed if the user does not uncheck it.  If automatic update is set, it will install without intervention.

There are credible articles that say that Microsoft either has installed or will install changes to my computer that will enable Microsoft to use it as an advertising platform and then install Windows 10 without first obtaining an informed decision to do so.  I truly hope this is not true.

On behalf of my clients and their 162 Windows "consumer" computers, I must tell you that we do not grant Microsoft or any other vendor the right to do this.  When other Windows players do this, we regard it as malware and take great care to remove it.

Microsoft got to where it is today by selling Windows.  We have spent decades learning how to use Windows and billions of dollars buying Windows computers and Windows software.  We own these systems.  They are ours, not Microsoft's.

Windows Update has earned a huge trust.  We trust Microsoft to use Windows Update to keep our computers safe and secure.  When Patch Tuesday comes along we install all the updates that Microsoft says are "important." We assume those to be either plugging a security leak or fixing a software error.

We all hope Windows 10 will be something we will want.  We will carefully review and consult trusted advisors before we install Windows 10.  We have seen Windows 8 and rejected it.  Windows 8 is a bad product we did not choose.  

Automatically installing Windows 10 on our computers would be a severe abuse of a well-earned trust.  Changing our computers to enable them to become advertising platforms is also an abuse.

    Have you heard of the legal term "Lies of Omission"?

    No but I can guess. It likely compares to the law in the UK governing misrepresentation. We also have a principle here called caveat emptor.

    I can't understand your entrenched views on privacy and choice.

    My views are not entrenched. I just do not believe in tilting at windmills. I am not obsessed with privacy because I have nothing to hide. I believe in being honest and open when dealing with others. I have no hidden agenda.

    The only aspect involving privacy that irritates, is when others gather information about me in order to bombard me with emails, telephone calls and targeted adverts. These annoy because they interrupt what I am doing at the time.

    Unfortunately stopping those engaged in these activities is not easy. Laws restricting such activity are unenforceable if there are insufficient enforcers to handle the scale of the problem and it is so difficult to identify and prove those responsible guilty. Solutions are made more difficult because the problem crosses frontiers. This means it may be a "crime" in one country but not the other.

    I have it set to Never, but when I do check for updates I'm notified as to what is available.  Those that sit in my available updates download and install on their own.  There's no escaping it, and no excepting it.  I'm going Linux, will miss a lot of folks on this OS but I've had enough.  I spend more time trying to keep my OS clean than I do using it ... and spending hours each day on forums trying to help like-mind people.  Most people aren't techies and with MS it is the 'spider and fly' game.  They haven't a clue, and I feel sorry for them so I try to help ... but there are too many and I am getting worn out.  I'm unwell and retired and this isn't how I want spend my last days, literally.  - Art

    I checked Updates a couple od days ago and my entir Updates History was gon.

    Running the automated Windows Update troubleshooter will do that every time!

    I had updates set to not download and let me decide but it's obvious that it no longer works.  It's been years since I have let MS update automatically.  Now there's something else to worry about.  I had 2 updates waiting for me to decide last night.  I left my machine running to do a Norton 360 scan and could not wait to seep, so I left it run ... something I have never done before.  When I checked update this afternoon, I found that even those updates have installed.  MS is forcing out Win 7 users who paid for this OS whether they like it or not.  I am spending more time and effort trying to stay clean than it's worth.  I'm looking very hard at adopting Linux.  Frankly, I have done a lot of push-back on this issue, but I've had about all the BS from MS that I can stand.  And to top it off, I have never opted-in for Win 10 at any point.  Where are the lawyers, in Bermuda I suppose.  Where's the ACLU, oh right, I know where ... making life easier for ...  -R

    You in US fight for "Liberty".

    But:

    a) Is "Privacy" a part of "Liberty"? Does "Liberty" guarantee your privacy?

    or

    b) Does "Liberty" mean that ANYONE can hack your "Privacy"?

    How does Microsoft treat "Liberty"? Is it b)?
