KB3035583 Installing Windows 10 using Windows Update?

Would you please tell me how to prevent the installation of KB3035583 in my computer and if it is already installed, how to remove it? Also, are there other updates that we need to be concerned about that enable this behaviour?

KB3035583 now appears as an Important update in Windows Update and is checked which means it will be automatically installed if the user does not uncheck it. If automatic update is set, it will install without intervention.

There are credible articles that say that Microsoft either has installed or will install changes to my computer that will enable Microsoft to use it as an advertising platform and then install Windows 10 without first obtaining an informed decision to do so. I truly hope this is not true.

On behalf of my clients and their 162 Windows "consumer" computers, I must tell you that we do not grant Microsoft or any other vendor the right to do this. When other Windows players do this, we regard it as malware and take great care to remove it.

Microsoft got to where it is today by selling Windows. We have spent decades learning how to use Windows and billions of dollars buying Windows computers and Windows software. We own these systems. They are ours, not Microsoft's.

Windows Update has earned a huge trust. We trust Microsoft to use Windows Update to keep our computers safe and secure. When Patch Tuesday comes along we install all the updates that Microsoft says are "important." We assume those to be either plugging a security leak or fixing a software error.

We all hope Windows 10 will be something we will want. We will carefully review and consult trusted advisors before we install Windows 10. We have seen Windows 8 and rejected it. Windows 8 is a bad product we did not choose.

Automatically installing Windows 10 on our computers would be a severe abuse of a well-earned trust. Changing our computers to enable them to become advertising platforms is also an abuse.

I look after 140 client computers, virtually all Win7. I have told my clients that if they choose to switch to Win10, they are on their own.

I remain guarded about Win10. I see absolutely no reason to run towards something with so many unknowns. Microsoft is desperate to have this intro look good. From all that I have read, they are meeting a lot of resistance.

The bottom line question is:

Is Windows 10 an updated Windows 8 with a better desktop. OR Is Windows 10 a better Windows 7.

If it is the former, they have blown it big time. If it is the latter and it really is a better Windows 7, after some time it will be a big success.

Microsoft spent a lot of money and emphasis on making Windows 10 a product that would work equally well on a Microsoft cell phone and on a Surface tablet. They have just written off many billions and are essentially closing down the $8 billion Nokia purchase – cell phones – not likely. Surface at best has about 3% of the tablet market after 2 years of trying hard. The tablet market is not growing at all. I would not be at all surprised if they close down Surface too.

So they designed Windows 10 for all these devices and the only one that it will be used on is computers. No one knows what design compromises they made to do this.

My plan is to not even consider an upgrade. Some of my clients (I hope few) will buy new computers that come with Win10. When that happens I will get a close look at it. I will only consider recommending it after a great deal of exhaustive study. Certainly, my clients will not get stampeded into a so-called "Upgrade."

Brother to the North,

I am reading your posts with great interest, and I agree wholeheartedly. For Microsoft to present this as an "Important" read Critical update is a farce at best.

I was a BETA tester for Windows 10 and I hated it. I had to have a Microsoft Account just to log on to my computer (my personal property I might add). Every time I logged on MS grabbed me by the short hairs and wouldn't release its grip until I logged off. I couldn't even play Solitaire without logging on to the Microsoft Store. It seems MS is following the Google groupie playbook where you can't use your computer unless you drink the kool-aid.

As a Microsoft Professional and a tech who has been using and supporting Windows devices for over 20 years (not to mention actively selling their systems to clients) I am genuinely saddened at this unfortunate turn of events. I do not need Big Brother looking over my shoulder whenever I sit down at my computer and simply want to create a document.

If this is the future of the MS OS I will use my Windows 7 machine until it dies then switch to Linux.
