KB3035583 Installing Windows 10 using Windows Update?

Would you please tell me how to prevent the installation of KB3035583 in my computer and if it is already installed, how to remove it? Also, are there other updates that we need to be concerned about that enable this behaviour?

KB3035583 now appears as an Important update in Windows Update and is checked which means it will be automatically installed if the user does not uncheck it. If automatic update is set, it will install without intervention.

There are credible articles that say that Microsoft either has installed or will install changes to my computer that will enable Microsoft to use it as an advertising platform and then install Windows 10 without first obtaining an informed decision to do so. I truly hope this is not true.

On behalf of my clients and their 162 Windows "consumer" computers, I must tell you that we do not grant Microsoft or any other vendor the right to do this. When other Windows players do this, we regard it as malware and take great care to remove it.

Microsoft got to where it is today by selling Windows. We have spent decades learning how to use Windows and billions of dollars buying Windows computers and Windows software. We own these systems. They are ours, not Microsoft's.

Windows Update has earned a huge trust. We trust Microsoft to use Windows Update to keep our computers safe and secure. When Patch Tuesday comes along we install all the updates that Microsoft says are "important." We assume those to be either plugging a security leak or fixing a software error.

We all hope Windows 10 will be something we will want. We will carefully review and consult trusted advisors before we install Windows 10. We have seen Windows 8 and rejected it. Windows 8 is a bad product we did not choose.

Automatically installing Windows 10 on our computers would be a severe abuse of a well-earned trust. Changing our computers to enable them to become advertising platforms is also an abuse.

I have hidden KB3035583 successfully for a couple of weeks, but it came back to life as the only Important Update available. I found this out when I got a little notification popup on the taskbar.

I hid it again and so far it is staying hidden.

Hi I have 5 laptop all are legal coa's only two of them have had the upgrade icon. The other three are set to automatic updates but still no icon is showing. I understand there is a way to reserve a upgrade to windows 10. I read that a person is able to upgrade more than one device also. I am thinking with my knowledge of pc's and such it might be better for me to use a iso and burn a DVD for my devices. How can I reserve this many copies for such a task?

Yeah, this much is clear. Business did not want to trade Windows XP for Vista, nor does it want to trade Windows 7 for 8x. As the "fix" for 8x, Windows 10 might have a chance, but they're blowing it RIGHT NOW.

Tentative conclusion: What Microsoft wants is upgrades about twice as fast as the customers want.

Edit: What Microsoft wants is to shove its ill-conceived, half-baked, trendy upgrades down the throat of business users who constitute its main customer base.

I think we are faced with a change in Microsoft strategy, a shift to a subscription model or at least an accelerated upgrade strategy. This is not for the benefit of the customer; it is to make him pay more

One attraction for Microsoft has to be a steady income / cash flow rather than one with large peaks and troughs.

They will more aware than last time when they were forced not to tie Internet Explorer to Windows. so one would anticipate they will be more cautious this time when changing licencing terms.

Vinod - I find it deeply disturbing how MS hijacked the W7 OS and W Update Program, without ANY TRANSPARENCY, and under the disguise as an important update to embed GWX into the OS.

I'm glad MS is trying to fix the W8 debacle and making the upgrade free for a year, but your customers may perceive this as having been deceived. And your reply is incorrect; I'm not participating in any W insider program and was hijacked by this "important update". I'm now cleaning this up on 3 W7 PC's.

How about getting your management together and discussing the above feedback? A fix....
- Make the update OPTIONAL;
- Describe what the update really is; be TRANSPARENT
- Don't hijack the OS (and W Update) with GWX running all the time; make it a link or side program
Not happy and now seriously looking at another platform for my next laptop....
