I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade to Windows10.  The main use for this computer, is sewing/embroidery software, 4D Embroidery.  Is W 10 going to run that software satisfactorily?

It is amazing how many people are having trouble with the 4 or 5D program.  My dealer said I didn't need the premier as it had more options than I would ever use.  She set me up to use the 5D--the 4D just appeared and then disappeared.  All worked well until last week and now I keep getting the info that the software module was opening--most of the time it didn't. The help from HUS was disgusting--they just said they no longer supported the 5D and no suggestions than buy the Premier progam--my dealer said it cost over $1,000n and after buying the epic I'm in no mood to spend more.  I think we should consider a class action here--perhaps the main problem is with Microsoft 10 but HUS could at least contact them and get assistance they can pass off to Like so many others I will never buy another machine altho the machines are wonderful.Betty

I did everything suggested for my 5D.  I have a Topaz 30 that uses VP3 format.  I could get 5D to work with windows 10 except when I exported the designs to the USB drive, only some of the blocks would send to the sewing machine.  I finally just upgraded to Premier + embroidery.  I didn't buy all the modules, just the embroidery, it was $600.  Thanks for your help.

    Betty,

Something doesnt sound right.  5D should load on Win 10 especially if it

was working up until a week ago.  Did you say that the dongle isnt

attached?  You must have the dongle for it to work, that's number 1.  The

product codes wont do you any good without the dongle even if you had an

old computer running Windows 7, you'd still need the dongle.

I would try running a restore point to a point when you think whatever

changed changed.  That would set your computer back and you could see if it

    works.

There are some free editing programs like MyEditor but it is probably about

the same age age 5D.  I have tried it and it works but it changes all your

formats to it own fromat.  You can easily change them back by just

uninstalling the MyEditor program.  Personally, I would never buy another

program that uses a dongle.  That's how they get you!

There is a very affordable program called Embroidery Ware.  I spent some

time using their free trial and a couple of days later got a 30% coupon so

I bought it for something like $60.00.  It's fantastic software.  It will

let you digitize or edit but if you have never digitized, it can be a bit

of a learning curve.  But for that money, I coudnt resist! There are videos and the Facebook group is excellent.

Let me know how it goes and if your grand daughter wants to email me,

my private email is below  I'd be happy to help.  I know how frustrating

this can be especially trying to get any information out of Viking.  I

bought a new D1 back in ?? I dont remember when and then bought another one

on Ebay.  They were still making them in Sweden at that point.  I knock on

wood every time I say this but..........the only thing that has gone on

both is the reverse  button so now I cant get into the programing but they

both still sew like a charm.  When they kick the bucket, I probably wont

buy another embroidery machine.  I have many good old manual Singers &

Montgomery Ward machines that will last forever.  LOL!

Dont give up.  You paid too much money for those machines.  There is an answer.  It just has to be found.

Thank you for taking the time to give a comprehensive reply--I've tried the various methods and none worked.  I have windows 10 and the 5D program.  Until a week ago all worked but now when I try to open a design the message is "software module opening"--but it doesn't--only a gray panel.  The first time I try to open a file--up comes the design but after that there is nothing.  I no longer have the installation disc for 5D(still looking for ita) and I don't think the dongle is attached but I do have the product codes.  I am very disappointed with HUS in that they simply dismissed the problem--I have over the years bought 3 of their top models and will never buy another one.  The lady who ran the shop here in town was wonderful with her knowledge and help but she has retired and living in another province.  Perhaps my young granddaughter will know what to do.  Thank you again for your help.  Betty

I am not totally understanding your issue.  Did you ever use Viking software and if so, on what machine?

I still use my old Viking 3d software on an old XP computer.  But I cant afford the money for a digitizing (not editing but you can do editing) program so I tried one called Embroidery Ware software.  https://www.embroiderywaresoftware.com/embroideryware-downloads/

It is incredibly easy and additive.  The guy who created it is very accessible on the Facebook page.

The problem may just be that you need to update the driver for your dongle.  Have you done a search online and in the Yahoo groups?  It may take some time but i am pretty sure that I have heard people using Win 10 with the Viking programs.  Dont give up hope.  Just dont expect Microsoft to know anything and Viking will never offer help bc they want you to buy the newest software.  Do some searching online and ask questions on any help site that you can find.

This is some old advice I read:

Check device manager for dongle drivers and see if there is any conflict with drivers..if you see a yellow exclamation mark than correct drivers are not installed..uninstall the driver for dongle and use http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and see if there is any drivers for dongle.......let me know if this works
