compatability of Windows 10 with embroidery software, 4D Embroidery, in particular?

I originally  posted an inquiry about the compatibility of Windows 10 to my 4D Embroidery Extra software.  Thank you for responses from other sewers who were either as frustrated as I was, or had other suggestions.  Yesterday, with the help of a wonderful friend, who owned the Pfaff store in Butte, MT, I upgraded to Windows 10 after downloading new hasp drivers for my 4D Emb Extra.  I've now spent about four hours using  4D software, which is running well with Windows 10.  I don't know if this will help anyone else, but here's what I did.  On Pfaff.com, under the Software tab, I scrolled down to a category called Other Useful Software and selected Hasp Driver download.  I saved and then ran that download, then made sure my 4D Emb Extra was still working and verified that I could uninstall Windows 10 if I wasn't satisfied. Then I upgraded to Windows 10.  That upgrade takes a while, but the steps provided on Microsoft's site, were easy to follow.  When the upgrade was complete, I inserted the hasp/dongle, and opened 4D Emb Extra.  My first attempt didn't work, but I tried it again immediately and it did work.   I've successfully opened it and used it multiple times since that first attempt.

I still don't have an answer to this question and will not update to Windows 10 until I know it will run 4D.  I did reach technical support for the embroidery software by phone and was advised that 4D ran with Windows 7 and Windows 8,  but since newer versions (5D and 6D) are now available, the embroidery software folks no longer offer support to what I assume must be many others like me who are  still content using 4D and unwilling to spend another $2000+ on newer software.  Not offering support means they will not test for compatibility to Windows 10.  If help comes, it will have to be from Microsoft or the Microsoft Community.

Are you running 4D in Win10 mode or in Win7/Win8 compatibility mode?  That is very different than running the program solely in Win10.  The file structure of 4D was not equivalent to Microsoft's file structure at the time.  4D is loaded directly into the root directory of the C-drive.  Newer versions adhere to Microsoft's file structure of installing into the Program folder.  The dongle drivers are only for getting the dongle to recognize the program and are for security purposes only and have no bearing on how the program operates in the Windows environment.

I have 4D software, and Microsoft 10 I am not having any problems??

I am so angry at Viking for not supporting 4D software.  It was not a cheap program.  I will never buy a Viking product again.  I do hope Microsoft can help us.  I already updated to Microsoft 10 and the Hasp does not work
