Mouse and keyboard input not working after windows 10 upgrade from windows 7.

Thanks for the tip about USB ports Power management settings.  I ma on High performance already but had not noticed or disabled that setting. It is now disabled. Today my keyboard and mouse (before the change I hasten to add) were not enabled at logon. This was the first time for 10 or more PC boot ups. I am lucky the issue on my PC  is rare and that every time these days only one soft reboot is ever needed.

I have never had an issue with my Motherboard. I believe it is revision 1 and know there was a Revision 2 at the time I purchased it, where the battery was placed elsewhere (good idea because  mine is directly under the end of my longish Graphics Card. What genius decided to locate it there I'll never4 know.  Maybe my Version of the Board does not have the  weaknesses you have regretfully experienced. I am pretty committed to Asus Boards as they have always been reliable and served me very well over the years. 

The ONLY issue I have ever had is the extremely rare occasion of the Intel supplied CPU fan not starting on PC power up.  I am 99.9% sure this is due to fan power management not starting powering the fan at start up at a high level.  When I made power to the fan start 60% it was better and now its is at 80% after a single non start-up up in 3-4 months. (My guess is the the fan occasionally needs a certain amount of power "oomph" initially to get the CPU fan started - maybe depending upon where the fan comes to rest (less sensitive "deader" spots?) after PC is switched off.

I am not planning to change Motherboard or CPU for years as I pushed my budget 4 years ago to get those to avoid a quick need to upgrade them. How time flies as not aware I have had this setup 4 years, I thought it was about 3 :)

I had the same board as you did and it was a power managment issue for me.  I had to go into the power management program and set to high performance and change the advanced settings to insure that the system did not power off the USB ports.  By default the system is set to "enable" use of power saving on the USB ports and will power them down. Change that to disabled and it might help correct the issue for you.

Also note that those boards have a serious flaw in them.  You should replace it with a newer board and cpu ASAP. I bought a lower end bioshock mobo and had my ASUS board RMA'd twice.  Its a flaw with the Power VRM modules I think.  The Bioshock board works well with the old CPU and is running Windows 10 without issue.  Good luck.

If you have another computer, you can make a Win 8.1 rescue USB drive**here**

(the flash drive must be >8 GB)**.**(If it was running Win 7 ignore all the rest of this. Just tap f9 (for HP) at start, to boot to the rescue drive.)

For Win 8/8/1:

With an HP, press the ESC key at startup, choose the BIOS setup, Security heading.  Then use the up/down and left/right arrows to ENable "Legacy boot" an DISable "Safe Boot" . (I disabled "Fast Boot, too). 

Then I saved it -f10 - and pressed f9 after it restarted. This gave me the option to boot to the USB flash drive. From there, I was able to roll it back. (Under recovery options).

Once it's rolled back, don't forget to get back into the BIOS and re-enable fast boot, safe boot, and disable legacy boot.

Then you can install GWX Control Panel to save you from yourself next time you get bored.

Thank you!!  Although this had been suggested before, when I checked it appeared AI Charger was not installed.  Following your uninstallation sequence showed it was active and I uninstalled it alone.   Then and on my 22nd attempt at an upgrade it not ony worked but so do my USB wireless keyboard and mouse.   Thank you for suggesting the detailed steps.
