Windows Defender Error Code: 0x80073afc

Bought my computer May of 2013.

Has a Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?

Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [pick one] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

I had alreaday previously completed what you suggested at an earlier date way back in April...       

You didn't join these forums until 26 June 2015 so whatever steps I posted "way back in April" weren't for your computer!

Bought my computer May of 2013.

My comment about the purchase date was directed at the person reporting that they had a new PC with this problem.
