getting error 0x803C010B while runing printer troubleshooter

Original Title: Can't Troubleshoot - get error 0x803C010B 

My printer suddenly stopped printing today and when I run the troubleshooter I get the above error 0x803C010B

I've tried everything - uninstall, re-install, update drivers, configure using TCP/IP - nothing works. The printer always shows offline since last windows update.

Sorry for the delayed response.

For all of those who are using network printers, the reason for the issue to occur can be due to SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). SNMP manages devices on a network. Some Printers may not support this protocol, because this obtains the printer's status regardless of whether or not they support SNMP, although it only supplies simple status information for those devices.

I suggest you to disable the SNMP option from the printer properties. To do that please follow the steps below:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Hardware and Printers option.
  3. Right click on the Network printer (your printer).
  4. Choose Properties.
  5. Go to the Ports tab and choose Configure.
  6. Uncheck SNMP Status Enable option.
  7. Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

There was as recent update that allows the firewall to let Epson Print inside.  With the amount of attacks that Norton stops, I'm happy to have to figure this out safely and patiently.

    Basics:  Toshiba Satellite 875 wireless laptop; Windows 8.1 Operating System; wireless HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 - AIO.  Our wireless system was installed by Charter network.  All the other wireless devices in our home are working just find except , of course, my Windows 8.1 computer.

    1)  I cannot follow these directions because I am attempting to REINSTALL the printer so, it is not listed. 

    2)  Everything was working fine until the Windows 8.1 auto update.  (After reading the other comments, it seems that it doesn't matter what kind of printer we have, the commonality seems to be the Windows 8.2 update!!!) 

    3)  I get error 0x803C010Bwhen I run the Windows Printer Install Troubleshooter. 

    4)  As stated at the beginning, I have a Toshiba Satellite 875 wireless Laptopthat came with Windows 8.1 preloaded  therefore, no CD.  Toshiba supports Windows 8.1 issues since they preloaded it.  (What a concept - a company standing by their product and or the work they did on it!) 

    5)  HOWEVER, this involves MORE than a Windows 8.1 issue with an update since there is a printer involved.  The printer is a wireless HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910.   I have contacted Toshiba in the past and purchased a Service Contract that covers 3 Major Issues a year (i.e., issues that involve a third item, like the printer).  I had used up my 3 Major Issues for the year on Windows 8.1 problems before this auto update!  So, now, I think I need to work with the Windows folk!

    6)  What I have done: Unplugged everything, waited 10 minutes, then plugged everything back in.  And, yes, the printer is plugged directly into the wall socket. (This seemed to be important to someone I spoke with before coming to this site.) 

    7)  PLEASE, tell me how to get Windows 8.1 (with the update) to:

         a.  Recognize the HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 printer that had been printing

         b.  Re-Install the HP Officejet Pro 850 A910 printer that had been printing, and

         c.  Insure that it will STAY installed!

    Trying to follow this thread as I have similar problem but I am confused as to resolution.  I use a Brothers HL-5250DN and Windows 8.1.  Problems began with automatic update from 8 to 8.1 (which included some other nasty surprises).  Whereas the printer worked perfectly before update, now almost every new day, when I first try to print, I get a printer offline message.  I have to go into the "device and printers" page of the control panel, uninstall the printer and then reinstall it again.  It then works fine until the next morning.

    The router and its setup is the same as before the Windows upgrade and I am not prepared to buy a new printer. 

    Having tried to follow this thread, I am still confused as to what is the cause of the problem and how to fix it.  Any suggestions?
