Wondering what CompatTelRunner.exe is doing on my computer?

I agree with Nekked Runner .

Not a good response as I too had the same basic question;

I have a fresh install of WIn7 and running Comodo CIS Anti-Virus that detected this application.
My question too was what does CompatTelRunner do?
My concern is if this is an absolutlety necessary thing or can I shut it down or worse is an infected file?
After repeated questioning it was finally admitted that it is a program that while desireable for those interested in upgrading would not be needed by some people as myself.
From what I gather reading between lines of the respondant is that it is neither necessary nor will there be any negative impact to me by not allowing to to run except that maybe my computer and OS run better without it using resources.

So my solution was to tell Comodo CIS to just block and terminate this application every time it attempts to run.

I did not have time yet to go though checking the services running to see if it can just be disabled there or if I need to search the registry manually but before going that far I think I may let Revo Unistaller have a go at it.

Its the tool to check for apps that are compatible with windows 10. So certainly would run on Windows 7, and 8.1. And it continues to run even after you go to Windows 10.

Per the 2 links you reference for "additional information";, all I am seeing is that it is a "Compatibility update for Windows7/RTM" and no further specific information is provided as to what it really does.

I upgraded from a Win8Pro operating system, so I would have to ask why would it even continue to run under my already installed Win10Pro.

All that those 2 links show me is the name of the program, the version#/date and size.

How do I ("we") really find out why it is invoked often, upon completion of Win10 OS install?

If you search the web for this executable, you may just notice that too many other people are asking the same exact question as to what this *.exe does, and your answer really does nothing but add more confusion.

If you really think that your answer as a Microsoft "support engineer" (or an MVP) is sufficient for us to determine what compattelrunner.exe really achieves in Win10, then all that you have achieved is further wasted-time for all those who have this question.

Sad for you but sadder for many Win10 users.

I will just have to use WinPrivacy utility to block it from doing its telemetry function; what ever that function really is supposed to achieve under Win10.
