KB3013455 (MS15-010) causes font corruption

February 2015 update KB3013455 causes 'Courier New' font corruption on some Windows systems, I can confirm it for Windows Server 2003 and 2008. You can verify it in Notepad. Removing the update fixes the issue.

Windows 7 and 8.1 are not affected by the update.

Yes Remove/Add Program >> View Installed Windows Updates >> I added the column to display installation date, reverse sorted and found "3013455" ((this update), then Uninstalled it.

This was common in the late 90's/early 2000's, had to remember which updates not to install that would break things. It's been solid for at least a decade, now this.

I don't really care what the fix is for. If I can't read my screen from my chair, I need to resolve it to do my job (own a web design firm).

I share the same opinion as this article "...the bottom line here is that if you want to be able to actually read the screen, you'll want to hold off installing this update until the problem is fixed."

Choose your OS from the half dozen big options at the top and it brings you right to the download page.

Hit the big red download button and it should offer you two updates:

kb3013455 (the original that breaks fonts)

and

KB3037639 (the secondary update to fix fonts)

I installed the original, said do not reboot, and installed the second.

After reboot I appear patched and my fonts are good.

Me too. Endless 'searching for updates' occurred after I downloaded and double-clicked the msu file. So, I right-clicked the msu file and picked an appropriate program to run it - Windows Update Standalone Installer or something like that.

I did the same as suggested (right-click and select Open with Standalone Updater or something) and it worked ! Well I still got the "Searching for updates" for more than 10 minutes, but this time it finally installed the fix. My fonts are looking good again.

So people, don't double-click !

Yeah, I'm done chasing down the answers to this. Done installing, uninstalling, re-installing, re-uninstalling and chasing down links that give me security warnings and if I go ahead anyway they say the page isn't available??? This has all turned into way too much BS and I'm done with this thread or any other community thread where people are left guessing at answers and chasing rabbits! RIDICULOUS!

MS must realize that less than 10% of people affected by this idiocy are finding these threads OR solutions to the font problem. So, I am going to wait for MS to send out an official fix/update/whatever and if it doesn't come before I get my new computer in 2 weeks I will buy an Apple even if I have to go with a refurb. because THIS is just stupid. Peace, ALL!

so i installed the Windows6.0-KB3013455-x86.msu, did not reboot, went to install Windows6.0-KB3037639-x86.msu and Windows Update Standalone Installer just gives me a 'searching for updates' for several minutes...it can't find it?
